Jozy Altidore's loan move to Spanish second division leaders Deportivo Xerez is now official, a source close to Altidore confirmed on Friday.

 

Altidore joined his new club today for the start of a half-season loan that should afford him the opportunity for much more playing time than he has been receiving with Villarreal.

 

So why would Villarreal loan Altidore out to Xerez and not a bigger club like Everton? It's pretty simple really. Villarreal have long-term plans for Altidore to be a part of its club. Keeping him in Spain will allow Altidore to continue his assimilation to the culture, and will also allow Villarreal to keep close tabs on his progress. He is also joining a club that is currently in first place in the second division so he won't be expected to come in and carry the team. Xerez is also coached by respected former Barcelona player Esteban Vigo.

 

For those wondering, Xerez returns to action on Sunday to face Alicante CF, which currently sits second from bottom in the Segunda standings.

Ruined my night. Toni called for a foul on a fantastic goal he scored. Total blown call. Landon came on at the 75th and showed well. He could have been more aggressive, but [expletive] was it an intense atmosphere to walk into. Rough and loud game. Unbelievable intensity. MLS pulls this crap with all of their players. They pulled it with Mathis back in the day and it wrecked him. They pulled it with EJ back when EJ still had a shot to develop and Benfica wanted him. They pulled it with Clint and Clint said FU and said he'd leave anyway.

 

I understand wanting to maximize an asset but Celtic's asking price was fair.

Part of that is the fact that Portsmouth suck, but yeah, Hogs let him pinch in and create and he played really well. It's nice that we have 2 of our best players in form and playing at a high level right now.

Aside from Torres's first goal, both teams were pretty poor. I watched the whole game and can't remember a single decent chance by Chelsea. Lampard did get harshly sent off in the 60th minute but he wasn't doing much before that anyway. Scolari doesn't seem to handle the big games too well.

I just saw the highlights of this one. That was the crappiest red cards ever considering some of the other tackles in that game. How Botswinga didn't get sent out for the play on Benayoun in the corner is beyond me.

Yeah the red card on Lampard was very weak. The worst part of the Boswinga foul is that they gave Chelsea the free kick after it. Yeah I am not that upset that Keane is leaving, I think that he is a good player, but he clearly just doesnt fit in and its clear that Rafa is not going to play him that much.
