No Bobby Convey. A very MLS-heavy squad.

Its mostly because the game is in America. I'm sure most of the European teams wouldn't let their players fly overseas for an irrelevant friendly. If the game was in Denmark, I'm sure it would be a different story.

DeMarcus Beasley got some 1st team action with Manchester City over the weekend. I saw some of the match against Everton and he was all over the field. He beautifully set up the first goal of the match. Its go to see him making an impact already.

It looks like Dempsey's deal is getting close to being official pending some work permit issues.

Good news on both counts!

I just hope those work permit issues don't bite him.

I know Convey had issues getting the work permit when he first tried to go over to England.

I think Dempsey has played in the prerequisite number of USMNT games that he would need for his work permit, so here's hoping for a smooth transfer.

He hasn't. The rule is that a player must have appeared in 75% of his national team's games in the past year. Dempsey appeared in 9 of 13. he was on the bench for the Italy WC match, wasn't on the roster for 2 of the WC tuneups (one because he was suspended for that fight at the Revs practice), and missed the first NT appearance of last year (not sure why on that one). The fact that he doesn't have the 75% is why they have to go to the permit tribunal.

Did you mix up the Czech WC game with the Italy WC game? Not that it matters, but he started and was probably the best player on the field in the Italy game. Also, the friendly with England didn't count as a cap?

Stupid Clint for punching Joey Franchino, and stupider Arena for not playing him in the Czech game. :x

Thats what i meant. Sorry. but the point stands

article saying what I just said

Oh, I didn't doubt you. My memory is just failing me today.

BTW have you been watching Roma play? Are they still 7 behind Inter?

Yep. Serie A is off until the 14th.

They've looked great of late. Gorgeous overhead kick goal from taddei in their last game.

By the way, DaMarcus Beasley has been on fire for Manchester City the last couple of games.

If anyone wants a personal update, I saw Huddersfield Town win 1 game from April to the turn of the year, out of perhaps 20, 21 games that I saw. Not a good time for the team.

Finally he gets his wish to play overseas. Fulham must really like American players.

I can't think of any other teams with more than 2 Americans. Reading has two with Bobby Convey and Marcus Hanhemann. Everton has Tim Howard, Man City has Beasley and Reyna, Watford has Jay DeMerit, Blackburn has Friedel, Leeds has Eddie Lewis, West Ham has Jonathon Spector. Hopefully Fulham creates a pipeline for American players to play in the EPL.

Rumor now is that Gooch is looking to head to West London with Fulham as well.

I would expect a bigger club to target him, and not to be cheap. He is one guy I would not mind going to Germany.

My cousin used to play with him on the Youth National Team and other clubs in DC.

Gooch and Fulham couldn't work out a deal, so he's back with Standard Leige.

That's disappointing, hopefully he's able to move somewhere else by the end of the month.

Rumor has it that AC Milan is interested. I'd imagine learning from Nesta and Maldini would be good apprenticeship for the Gooch.

That would work nicely for Gooch -- and the US.

Do you think he'd get playing time at AC? I'm not sure that he would get much playing time even off the bench as a sub.

Yeah. Milan's short on central defenders. They've been drafting Maldini and Kaladze into the middle, while both of them prefer to play wide. Also, Nesta is much less durable than a few years ago. Also, they've played Billy Costacurta in the middle on several occasions. Yes. 41-year old Billy Costacurta.

He'd make a decent number of appearances.

I like it. Hopefully he would get playing time.
