Does anybody here ACTUALLY think Hendry is going to go after Gonzalez? I mean that would mean Hendry would have to make a smart move, which he isn't exactly known for.

It WOULDN'T surprise, that if he had to go with an unproven rookie manager, he went with Wally Backman.

(ducks and hide)

Yes, I think Gonzalez could be high on Hendry's list. Hendry apparently was very impressed with him before hiring Baker.

Secondly, Hendry has tried to model the Cubs after the Braves. Unfortunately for Cub fans, Hendry doesn't really understand how the Braves have done what they've accomplished. Either way, hiring a lieutenant of Cox makes sense in that regard.

That should be the name of a bar just southeast of Wrigley.

again cub fans getting over-excited over a guy who has not proven himself long term in a crucial position. Fine 3rd base coach may be important but he has never sat in the seat.

Bring him on, he will be a nice relief from Dusty, but until I see the Cubs in the Playoffs he is just a guy with potential , like Kerry Wood

Proven himself longterm in a crucial position? Wasn't that the big on Dusty when he was hired? How did that work out.

"Proven managers" might be one of the few things more overrated than proven veterans. Joe Torre sure as hell wasn't proven, neither was Terry Francona or Ozzie Guillen, how about Scioscia or Brenly? Jack McKeon was the closest thing to a proven manager among the recent winners, yet he didn't win much of anything prior to the Marlins gig.

All this proves is that catchers and weak hitting MIFers make the best skippers.

what position did jim leyland play?

According to Baseball Reference he never made the big leagues, and there's no mention of him in the baseball cube(although I doubt that TBC is comprehensive all the way back to Leyland's days).

Neifi is going to someday manage a team to 14 straight WS victories.

He might as long as he avoids using players as bad as he is.

Leyland's playing stats were compiled with an abacus and are etched in stone tablets somewhere.
