The final lines on the combined no-hitter against Peoria:

Michael Wlodarczyk: 8 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 7 K

Celso Rondon: 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K (struck out the side in the 9th)

It's the second time this season that a Cubs minor league team was no-hit. Of course, Mesa still won 1-0 in the game they were no-hit in.

Felix Pie: 4 for 5, double, 3 singles, 2 runs.

Felix Pie: 2 for 2, double, triple

So, triple or not?

MiLB.com changed his triple to a single, apparently. :(

Wow, MiLB.com really screwed up...at the time, they called what was an IF single a triple.

Well, Felix is really fast.

Mesa now up 4-0 after 6 on the power of a Cody Gilbert 2-run HR.

Jose Ceda: 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 6 K

17-year old Robert Hernandez: 2 IP, 0 R, 3 H

Cliff Andersen: 0 for 2, 2 groundouts, BB

Huh, 2005 A's first round pick Cliff Pennington, who has struggled mightily at high-A Stockton (.203/.302/.277) is playing for the AZL A's and is 1 for 2 today and batting .364 in 11 AZL ABs.

Wow, heck of a night for Felix and Ryan.

Pie is seriously on the rise the last month or so. If he continues and gets his OPS to about .800 (came into play tonight at .768) as a 21 year old in AAA ball, he seriously deserves a chance to jump to the majors. He's now hitting .282/.339/.439/.778 on the season, so he's not far off. If he does end up repeating the level, I expect a huge season (better than his half season in AA last year) from him.

Wow, I was actually kind of hoping that the Cubs would get Pennington when Pawelek looked too expensive. I guess it's a good thing we chose otherwise.

I wanted Pawelek or Hochevar. In hindsight, Garza woulda been a nice pick.

Thanks for all the updates, CR!

The 19-year-old Ceda is looking pretty darn good in the early going for the Cubs. In 12 IP, he has allowed 5 hits, struck out 21 and walked 7. He has a 0.75 ERA and a WHIP of 1.00. Definitely worth dumping for two months of Walker.

With the 17-year-old Robert Hernandez going 5-1, 2.18, the 18-year-old Chris Huseby striking out 9 while walking only 1 in 8+ innings of work and the 19-year-old Marco Carillo going 2-0, 2.11 with 25 Ks against 7 BBs and a WHIP of 1.01 in 32.2 IP, the Cubs have a group of under 20 arms worth watching in Arizona.

Rafael Dolis is also under 20 and very, very intriguing. Great strikeout numbers and a nice fastball.

Looks like Nathan is the reason the Chiefs haven't been no-hit before.

Peoria Journal-Star[/url]"]"Can you believe that?" said Bedo, a Chiefs intern who filled in for regular broadcaster Nathan Baliva because the latter had a family obligation. "He's probably never going to let me do another game."

Devil Rays left-hander Mike Wlodarczyk threw eight no-hit innings before he reached his pitch count. Wlodarczyk struck out seven and walked three.

Right-hander Celso Rondon struck out the side in the ninth. It was Rondon's first game since parent club Tampa Bay promoted him from short-season Hudson Valley of the New York-Penn League.

...

The Chiefs' Alberto Garcia flew out to deep center field in the second inning. The only other close call came on Davy Gregg's blooper in the fourth, but Devil Rays right fielder Garrett Groce made a long running catch.

"We pretty much sucked," said Chiefs manager Jody Davis, who credited Wlodarczyk for having good movement on his fastball. "We just didn't have very good swings at him."

...

Wlodarczyk improved to 8-9 with a 3.45 earned-run average. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder threw 96 pitches, one above Tampa Bay's limit for low Class A.

Agreed. I'm really glad to see both of them doing better. We really need these guys to step up.
