The Treatment-

Retarding the development of a young player by giving the player selcted playing time and subing for him in late innings.

http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp

At the plate: Matt Murton, who sat out the two previous games, homered and singled twice. He raised his on-base percentage to a solid .365

you decide?

problem is, with a .298 ba and .365 obp, Dusty and Hendry can both say that it is working. Murton is hot right now..

edit: typo city

Thing is they are playing another kid (Pagan) over him. So IRDC about that.... what I care about is the fact that they have yet to start Theriot since his most recent recall.

Baker started Theriot Thursday at Milwaukee. The kid went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and sat the next day.

Bruce, when the writers pin Baker down on why he makes moves like this, does he have a coherent response? It just seems to me that alot of the moves Baker makes are easily called out in the media, does he just refuse to respond?

We ask all the time. We usually get a long response about how this guy hits against a certain type of pitcher and how it was like when Dusty faced Cy Young and thus and such.

Also Bruce, I'd love to hear your opinion on if giving Murton and Pagan both playing time is justified or not.

I'd start Murton every day. Every day. You can spot Pagan in RF against lefties.

LOL classic. I heard Cy owned Baker.

There also is no reason Murton should be batting anywhere other than 2nd in the lineup. .298 avg/.365 obp...am I missing something here because Dusty certainly is.

You're right. That's where I'd bat him, too.

Are there any rumblings in the Cubs front office due to the Len Kasper interview done the other day on a milwaukee radio station? I heard he really stressed the importance of OBP and downplayed the role of small ball, which is completely opposite of Hendy and Baker's sermon isn't it?

Well, I would like an answer from Dusty himself as to why this is. Speed does not always equal OBP as Dusty seems to believe. Besides, Murton has above average speed anyway.

I can just see this exchange happening before the final game of the season.

Reporter: "Why isn't Murton in the lineup today? He was 5 for 5 yesterday, with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI. He's hitting .299 for the season. Doesn't he deserve the chance to finish over .300?"

Dusty: "The dude got thrown out at the plate yesterday. He needs to, like, sit and reflect on that."

Reporter: "But Speier waved him home. How is it Murton's fault when he was just following directions?"

Dusty: "A player needs to, you know, think for himself and know whether he can score or not."

Reporter: "Then why do you even need coaches if the players are expected to know what to do without help?"

Dusty: "We need the coaches to, you know, help the players."

Reporter: "Aren't you contradicting yourself here?"

Dusty: "No contradiction, dude. It all makes sense if you, like, think about it."

Reporter: "You're saying that you need coaches to help players, but that players aren't supposed to need help from the coaches."

Dusty: "Exactly! You've finally got it."

I had that exact exchange in the context of a law office in my former job. what a relief it is my former job. I just hope Murton finds relief by a change in management instead of the Cubs being his former employer.

Anyone remember the Simpsons episode where they moved to Cypress Creek so Homer could work for Hank Scorpio the supervillian? Bart went to a school where he was behind the others in his grade, so they put him in with the slow kids to "catch up"? That must be what it is like for a young guy playing for Dusty.

No, I haven't heard anything about that.

That would just show how stupid Baker is. No joke.

Bruce, next year will you please leave the Daily Herald and become GM/Manager of the Cubs? I think we'd all like that. :D
yah.. you would prolly do better than Mr. Jim Fail Hendry.. Edited by dvdd127
