Extra bases: Wade Miller threw four shutout innings in a Minor League rehab start for Class A Peoria on Saturday. Miller gave up one hit and struck out four in a 4-2 loss to Kane County. His next start will be Friday for Triple-A Iowa at Memphis

Worth watching at least.

Not unless he has his velocity back and we can get him through waivers, as is he'll just wind up knocking one of the kids out of the starting rotation.

he only has a one year contract so they would have to resign him for next year if they are interested. as far as his velocity goes, i was at the game in kane county but they dont have a radar gun so i'm not sure what he was throwing at. with his curve though, i think he could be quite effective at 88-90 on the fb. if he's healthy i can see a 2007 rotation on z, prior, miller, hill, marshall with guzman, mateo & marmol in iowa if needed.

If he doesn't have the velocity back, but has adjusted and learned accordingly how to pitch without the stuff he used to have, he might be of value to someone for the remainder of the season. But against low level hitting, that's a hard assumption to make. We'll see after a couple outings at AAA.

But if so, to the Angels/Red Sox for PTBNL, based on his contribution to the team. Likely not to get us much, but never know.

Keep every pitcher under the Sun!!!

Sort them out next spring training. Wade could be long/short relief Sept. call-up, build his arm and compete for the starting rotation next spring.

He's a free agent after this year though and you would probably be building him up for someone else. Is he on the 40 man? If he is then that would be fine to have him in the pen then.

If he's showing he can do something useful, either starting or relief, hell, sign him back for another year on the cheap. Can't be too careful with this club. But again, only if it's for a deep discount...Neifi money or lower, obviously. Not everyone can command the high price of the Neifury.

As memory serves me, Miller made it clear when he signed with this team that he had no intention of being a reliever.

What a waste. We spent 1 million on this guy and Hendry counted on him to be ready by May. What idiocy!!

Did you expect any different from one of the worst GMs in baseball?

Well, that just makes the choice easier. He puts up decent starting numbers on SOME level consistently or he's gone.

Stop being so tough on the kid, man. He's just doing the best he can.

While his plan clearly failed in the "have him ready by May/June" area, this is one of the worst examples to use of Hendry's poor GMing. Miller was had for dirt cheap (MLB-wise) and had a huge upside if he could come back. It was an obvious gamble going in, but it's basically no-lose. Had he not also shelled out for guys like Rusch or Neifi, nobody would be slamming Hendry for the Miller signing. It was a logical gamble with next to no downside. There's still a chance it might pay off to something nor next to nothing.

I was at this game in Kane County. Miller was very wild. He did seem to have a lot of pop on his fastball. To my blind eye he looked like he was throwing harder than anyone else in the game. Control was his major problem.

Who cares. It's hard to even remember that he's with the Cubs at all. If he pans out, great. If not, who cares. Doesn't seem like we've had a good run with our pitchers coming back strong from injuries. There's six weeks left in the season.... Miller's chance to make a difference is gone, and what happened to the talk of him coming back much sooner?
