Oh, that close huh? I didn't realize that. So eBay is off the table. Craigslist, here I come! God I can't believe I didn't think of that. The MLB playoffs are going to help pay off my student loans... sweet.

Like I said, be careful. I know someone who lost nearly $300 on $400 worth of Cubs at Cardinals tickets this year.

The Cubs will win just enough for Hendry to justify bringing Baker back. Whopee.

Don't discount that for a minute.

*sigh*

Its simple: The Cubs finish with a respectable .500 or slightly better record for the second half. Hendry waits until November/December, when the stink of the first half of this season has worn off. He offers Baker a slight raise over his salary this season, and Baker, knowing he can't get anywhere near that number from any other team in baseball, accepts in early December.

They then call a press conference in which Hendry highlights the "tremendous second half" Dusty had in which he "was able to get the most out of the young players on this team" and "cope with some serious losses." Prior and Wood are mentioned again, and the key word during the press conference. is "progress during the second half." No one from the Trib or Sun Times dares to ask him about how his choice of veterans over young players early in the year contributed (at least partly) to their poor play, instead choosing to ask Baker if he can "find a way to motivate Aramis Ramirez" next year.

He then caps off the offseason by picking up overpaid #5 starters who "eat up innings" and will take the place of one of the young pitchers and an overpaid veteran with no concept of the strike zone to bring some "experience" to left field. This team goes into 2007 with a payroll down a couple million from this year (due to extensions for Zambrano and a new, vastly overpaid Juan Pierre), and we repeat this horrible season all over next year.

Even that bleak scenario assumes that Aramis will still be around to be motivated.

Huh?

I'm teasing you about your idea of making enough money scalping to pay off your loans...

Ohhhh. Definintely not enough to pay them off. God I wish. But if Cards fans want to help me increase my monthly payments, then who am I to stop them?

Oh Bruce, just come out and tell us. Did Dusty already sign his extension? We can handle it, I think. :(

No, I don't know that he did. I had it at 20-80 him coming back about a month ago. I've got it at 50-50 and rising every day right now.

Oh, and even though I know this "winning" crap will probably, knowing hendry, save dusty's job. And I know that we're 9.5 out with like three thousand teams in front of us, but at least its kinda exciting to watch the games again. I mean, I hate the way the team is managed in nearly every aspect. But hey, we're winning. I like winning.

It's insulting either way. Nothing is more insulting that re-upping busty daker. It can't get any more insulting, no matter what time you do it.

Izturis has been a more patient hitter than I expected him to be. He seems to either hit a strike in play in the first 2-3 pitches or have a pretty deep count, at least so far.

One of the things one article mentioned is he was a patient hitter. Which is just another thing he's got over Neifi Prezidente.
