this is the sort of thing that pisses me off about message boards ---- here we have a few guys who, with all things being equal, are both rooting for a common goal -- Cub sucess.

However, becuase they look at things differently, crappiness ensues.

95% of the people here are rooting for the Cubs. People just have different views of how to reach the success we'd all like to see.

I think the reason crapiness in ensued in this thread is people pointed out some of (what they perceived to be) flaws in the original post. Then people got all defensive and said YOU CAN'T PROVE HE WILL SUCK!! STOP MAKING ARGUEMENTS ABOUT MONEY!!! PECOTA IS STUPID!!! WHY DON'T YOU JUST ROOT, ROOT, ROOT FOR THE CUBBIES!?!?!?!

At least, that's the way I saw it.

Define snarky.

Irritable or short-tempered; irascible.

Define irascible.....just kidding.

Yes, that is me but some attitudes here just bring it out in me. We all want the same thing...to see the Cubs do well. In the meanwhile, let's enjoy it for what it is, have some fun and see what happens. I prefer to watch the games and the players while having some beers and some fun.

i better be having a lot of beers, then, because the cubs will have 3 hitters in their opening day lineup more than capable of putting up sub-.700 OPS seasons. one of those players (izturis) is among the very few major league players today who has put up a sub-.600 OPS in back to back FULL seasons of major league baseball.

2004 was a career year for izturis, he broke the .700 barrier by 11 full point, how fantastic!

i repeat my point from an earlier thread: if the cubs start izturis, cedeno, and pierre, the cubs will lose a lot of games. the true fans won't have much fun at all because their team will be terrible.

I have to disagree. We didnt lose money to spend next year. And I dont think Izturis is breaking the bank. We gained a 26 year old all star short stop. We werent getting Either or Guzman, but instead we have one of the better ss in the nl, offensively lacking or not.

Izturis will make about $4.5m next season and $5.5m in 2008. So we actually did lose money to spend. About...$4.5m worth.

That adds up. Rusch + Neifi + Izturis is about $10m in waste. If we just had Izturis, it would be one thing. Together, the three of them take up more than 10% of our payroll. That's ridiculous.

Every Cubs fan wants Izturis to be successful in Chicago and would love it if he turned into a reliable SS and #2 hitter. Fact is, that it will be unlikely for him to do so based on what he has done in the past. He had one decent year but did very little before that and has done very little since then. And like people have said, his 2004 season was nothing spectacular anyway. His defense is great but this team needs reliable pitchers that aren't going to get hurt year after year and another solid bat in the lineup. Izturis doesn't provide either of those.

I hope Izturis becomes a better player but I don't think he will. And if he doesn't, he's going to be costing the Cubs $4.5 million in 2007 that could have been added to a contract or two of free agents in the offseason to sweeten the deal. But if he was owed 500K next year and was a bust, then the Cubs wouldn't be wasting much money at all.

On the whole, the negatives to acquiring Izturis outweigh the postives of acquiring him.
