Ronnie Belliard is expected to be traded from the Indians to the Cardinals following Sunday's game.

The two teams are also discussing Guillermo Mota, but if the Cardinals get him, it will probably be in a separate deal. Belliard will take over at second base for the Cardinals, turning Aaron Miles and Hector Luna into role players. The Indians will install Joe Inglett as their second baseman for the rest of the season. Jul. 30 - 3:56 pm et

Belliard is a very underrated second baseman. Nice move by the Cards.

EDIT: Actually, not so much. I was just remembering his solid June. He's a very streaky hitter. He'll have some great months and some terribly horrible months. Overall, not much of an upgrade (if any) over Luna.

I don't understand how this is an upgrade over Luna.

Luna - 291/355/417, no discernable splits, came up in the organization and loved by LaRussa

Belliard - 289/335/419, terrible reverse splits, reputed attitude problem in a clubhouse that doesn't tolerate attitude problems

His reverse splits aren't typical over his career. He's actually hit lefties very well over his career (.820 OPS) and sucked against righties (.727 OPS).

Luna came up with Cleveland, Cards got him Rule 5 from them. LaRussa has no love for Luna or there'd be no way he wouldn't be the starting 2nd baseman to date over Miles. He's publicly outed Luna before.

The only way this is good for the Cards is that he'll take ABs away from Miles. They could have just stayed put and started Luna though.

I read on the Cleveland Indians' message board that Belliard is none to happy about this trade atleast at the moment. I'm not sure if there is any merit to what this person reported, but I'll throw it out there anyway and see if a reputable source backs it.

Belliard walked in to the clubhouse screamed F#@& and through a helmet across the floor." He went out and then later returned to say his goodbyes and talk with the media."

One of the media group then asked "Well it must be good to go from a team that is 23 games back to a teams thats in first place?" Belliard responded with " I don't care".

What are they giving up?

Apparently it is Luna.

So Luna for Belliard? That's a spectacular waste of a trade. :-s

The Disappointment Zone (a Cleveland sports blog)[/url]"]

Ronnie Belliard has been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for former Indian Hector Luna. The trade won’t be official until after the Cardinals-Cubs game. According to Mike Catan, reporter for WKNR, Ronnie Belliard, after hearing he was traded, blurted out an unrepeatable profanity and seemed upset. He then said his goodbyes to everyone in the clubhouse.

didn't realize he was out of favor...but the bolded part makes no sense. seems you saying that if LaRussa really liked him than he'd make less starts. I think you meant to say he would have taken over for Miles a long time ago. I thought he had.

Belliard is PISSED OFF about going to a contender from a team 23 games out? Just wow  . I take it, Belliard really loved Cleveland, or is it he hates St. Louis?

It's "rows" because it resembles the way a corn field looks.

The best thing about this trade is it forces Tony to sit Miles.

For those not paying attention, Aaron Miles = our Neifi. Luna ='d our Todd Walker (good stick, bad glove).

CORNROW

corn·row [ káwrn r ]

noun (plural corn·rows)

Definition:

braided row of hair: a narrow parallel braid of hair in a set of braids covering the head and made close against the scalp

transitive verb (past and past participle corn·rowed, present participle corn·row·ing, 3rd person present singular corn·rows)

Definition:

fix hair into cornrows: to style hair in cornrows

[Late 20th century. Because the braids resemble kernels of corn]

It's true, he's not a good defensive 2B.

True, but there's nothing structurally wrong with his glove.
