Wednesday morning, Dempster was asked if he was surprised to see Baker come out and get him.

"Would you be?" he replied.

Was he upset?

"Would you be?" he repeated.

and on Dusty playing the stats...

Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca, who was 0-for-10 in his career against Dempster, popped out to second against Bob Howry to end the game. Dempster argued that the two hits off him were ground balls past the infielders and that he wasn't losing his control at the end.

"I wasn't getting wild," Dempster said. "Paul Lo Duca hasn't had a hit off me in his career, so. … That's the way it goes. It's part of the game, you know? That stuff happens."

I had no problem with Dusty pulling Dempster...

I honestly didnt either until i read LoDuca was 0-10 against him.

I guess I read this article to show some discontent with Dusty. Is it possible the players are getting sick of him and his moves? Is he loosing the clubhouse?

I'm shocked he hasn't it lost it yet!

If the Cubs were in contention then I would agree with yanking Dempster at that point. But the Cubs are out of it so Demp should have been left in to finish it.

I guess we're going to trade Dempster too. We got to get these malcontents out of the clubhouse.

I'd be surprised if JH traded him. He's immensly popular.

Let's see, he had just given up a run and walked the bases loaded and he's upset Dusty removed him from the game? He should really concentrate more on throwing strikes than acting like a spoiled 12 year old.

to me this is a non-issue.

(1) i'm glad dusty took him out after his jam

(2) i'm glad ryan is upset dusty took him out

I didn't see the outing. Was the jam due to ground balls that found holes? If so, it doesn't make much sense to pull him. Grounds balls are good, even if they find holes from time to time. A ground ball single is really no different than a ground ball out hit at the same pace, in terms of how the pitcher and batter performed. It's a matter of chance whether or not it's stopped by a fielder.

There were four batters that reached base. Two of them were on "seeing eye" singles that went "just past" Ronny and Neifi. He was pulled after a 5 pitch walk to Reyes that brought up LoDuca.

Since Reyes was meaningless at first (tieing run on third, winning run on second in the Bottom of the 9th), I didn't understand why Reyes wasn't intentionally walked anyway, but that was just me.

And you missed games in Shea? Whats your excuse :)

Well, there was a big problem with that-we were up 8-6 at the time, so walking Reyes would have put the winning run on base. Yup, the inning started with a single, then an out, then another single. Then Dempster walked the next batter to have the bases loaded. The next batter grounded out on a play that was just barely made to make it 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs, 8-6. Then he walked Reyes and Dusty pulled him after the 2nd walk.

Monday: Cubs suck, not worth the hassle of going to queens.

Tuesday: Cubs suck, softball playoffs.

Wednesday: Cubs suck, not worth taking a vacation day.

I actually had tickets to Tuesday's game (from work), but weather rescheduled our softball season and I wasn't going to miss the playoffs for this crappy team.

Well, it's coed, and heavily beer influenced. Pretty fun and not all that serious. It's been several years since I played 16 inch in junior high, which isn't a good idea when you're also playing little league at the same time. Screws with your swing.

Did you guys win or lose? We just finished our season out, having made up 4 rainouts from earlier in the season. We got moved up to the top city league and went a very disappointing 3-7 (but very competitive, only losing one game by more than 4 runs). With all but a few of us under the age of 40 we hung in pretty well.

We won. First place in regular season and cruising through the playoffs. Not a very competitive coed league, lots of beer.

thats cool. I'm in the same kinda league up here. Its a blast and we're currently in 1st. I still am having trouble converting my line-drive baseball swing into an upper-cut softball swing though....

Yeah...well, that would do it.

LIRR makes the trip to Shea so easy for me that I don't miss games just for the commute, but unless you work in Midtown, I get your point.

...but I could have used ya! All the Cubs' fans looked at me like I was nuts when I heckeled everytime Dusty or Larry showed up.

Amen! Add to that the fact that he hasn't been pitching that well lately. Dempster has always had too many walks as a closer and there was no place to put Lo Duca if he continued his lack of control. You can tell if a relief pitcher (especially a closer) is on or off by watching the first 2 batters. I advocated for years that you have others warming up when you bring in any relief pitcher (including the closer). If that hurts their ego, so be it.

It's pretty easy to get there from my office (in midtown), the issue is getting home (hoboken). But I normally don't let that stop me. I wouldn't have helped much. I'd say a couple things but I don't heckle. Usually it's just sit back, drink beers, eat peanuts and hot dogs, drink more beers, and BS with whomever I'm there with.

That's not a bad idea at all, except for the extra wear on arms that you'd like to be able to rest.

Wow, you just summed up my whole life in one brief sentence.
