Colvin ends up scoring. We go to the bottom of the 8th, Boise leads it 11-8.

I miscalculated Colvin's stat line earlier (got his SLG wrong, gave him 6 bases instead of 3 for that triple). It's actually: .310/.368/.531/.899. Sorry guys.

Sheesh, the guy's possessed. Stand-up triple!

.310/.368/.550/.918

Sexy

++++++++++++

A little bit of hope for the future.

He's, without a doubt in my mind, the Cubs second best hitting prospect and he's closing in (but not quite there) on my top 5.

-----------------

Mario Mercedes *just* misses a 2-run HR and settles for an RBI triple. Boise up 12-8. Now Camp with an RBI IF single. Boise up 13-8. Colvin should get one more chance to go 5/5.

Lightenberg gets a 1-2-3 9th inning. Iowa wins it 6-4.

Here's Colvin, with one out and Matt Camp at first base...

Foul tip, strike 1.

Swing and misses an outside fastball, strike 2.

Ball 1 high.

Fouled back to the screen, count remains 1-2.

Ball 2 inside.

Grounds a double over the thirdbaseman's head! Camp to third.

5/5, 3 singles, 1 double, 1 triple, RBI, 3 Rs, SB, OF assist.

Not too shabby...for the third time this season, he's one hit shy of a cycle...I'll re-calculate his stat line in a second.

And now he makes a fantastic running catch for the first out of the inning.

Roquet is pitching for the first time since his groin injury, trying to finish the game for Boise. He gets a 1-2-3 9th inning to finish off Spokane and at the halfway point of the NWL season, Boise is 8 games over .500.

And how exactly was this accomplished? Don't tell me he got bored and decided to bury himself up to his head at 3B

That seems high praise for a college draftee(21 at season's end) in short season A. I think I'd have at least Pie and Patterson above him.

Pie, yes. Patterson, no.

Why is that? Patterson's 2005 would serve as a benchmark for Colvin next year(although Colvin will be 6 months younger) and I have a hard time seeing him putting those numbers up. And that doesn't even consider that Patterson is a 2B and Colvin may be a corner OF.

I agree. I like Tyco but Patterson deserves to be higher than him for the time being. With Kendrick being promoted to the majors, Patterson is probably top 3-5 among 2B. I don't know if that says more about patterson or the lack of great 2b prospects, but either way I wouldn't rate Colvin ahead of Patterson yet.

Yeah, I don't get it. Yeah, he's been on a good run, but he's a guy who played 2.5 years (only started about half the time his freshman year) at an ACC school, meaning he played top-shelf competitions. I'd be concerned if he wasn't beating the crap out of Rookie-ball pitchers. A lot of the guys he's playing against are a year out of high school.

Ehhhhh...Short Season A is usually the starting point for most guys drafted out of college. I may be mistaken, but I believe all of the Cubs' HS draftees are currently down in Mesa while almost all of their college guys have started out in Boise. Colvin, Samardzija, Lansford, Clevenger, Muldowney, Kopach, Camp, Canepa, Papelbon, and so on are all college draftees. The only college guy who hasn't played at Boise this season for the Cubs is Ryne Malone, who started his season at Mesa.

Colvin's level of competition isn't that far behind him in termsof player quality, which is rather promising given his numbers. I would like to see him pushed up to Peoria soon, given he could stand to face guys at a higher level.
