Hard to comment without seeing who the prospects are.

But I can't wait to hear Williamson's comments regarding Baker now that he is on his way out the door.

I hope they are good. And that he doesn't say he was misquoted or whatever it was this time.

After watching him pitch this year, he ought to just keep quiet.

The Cubs get 19-year old lefty Fabian Jimenez Angulo and 22-year old righty Joel Santo from Class A Fort Wayne. Angulo is 5-7 with a 4.43 ERA. Santo is 5-6 with a 5.51 ERA.

Doesn't look like much.

Is Joel related to Ron Santo?

We didn't give up much. He didn't pitch well and will be a free agent at the end of the year. Not going to get much for him.

Nothing stands out for Angulo except that he's a young lefty. He had 99 walks to just 84 Ks coming into this season and a career WHIP of 1.90.

Hendry said Williamson was highly sought after and he was not going to give away players without getting quality in return.

Both have craptastic BB/9s and K/9s. Heck, Angulo's K/BB is <1.

I would assume they will have Rotschild straighten them out fairly soon.

Joel Santo was rated by BA as the Padres' #16 prospect going into the season. He's 22, has one of the best pure arms in their system, very projectable, has smooth mechanics and an effortless delivery. FB in the low 90s (tops out at 95), his slider and change need a lot of work though. He might eventually end up in the pen and he's got considerable upside.

Fabian Jiminez (no Angulo) was the #29 prospect in the Padres' system going into the season. He'll be 20 in about a month, and has a lot of upside. His FB is in the low 90s too and has topped out at 94, but has often been in the 80s because of poor mechanics. His offspeed pitch and changeup are even further behind than Santo's and his control and command are bad right now. He's very young and has a lot of raw skills, though.

Both guys sound interesting with some potential, but not worth much. About what you'd expect for someone like Williamson (I'd think this is what relievers will be valued at - not the Majewski trade).

How do you trade a Major League reliever for two minor leaguers that can't throw strikes, can't strike anyone out, and give up a lot of hits? I mean, this isn't even a great year for the Peoria rotation and they are all still better than these two guys. You shouldn't expect a fortune for Williamson, but he's still a big league pitcher and should command someone with even a glimmer of hope for a major league future.

EDIT: Those guys are both Top 30? No wonder BA ranked San Diego the 3rd worst system in the Majors.

We didnt see Jimenez this year in the 8 games we played against Ft. Wayne....but Santo was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts against the Chiefs....12 innings, 8 hits and 4 K's....

Wow.

We should have just traded him for cash considerations. We could've gotten something out of that.

You're right, they wouldn't crack the Cubs' top 30. But that's about what I'd expect out of Williamson. He might be an ML reliever, but I'm sure he's not looked that highly because of his struggles this year, his injury history and his calling out Dusty.

Please tell me what Williamson ever did for us? He's just not good, what did you expect other than minor leaguers? If you're upset now, what until you see how little we'll get for Walker.

Thanks. I appreciate someone who has seen the prospects comments. They are far more meaningful than the speculation.

I'd expect a minor leaguer that has done anything remotely successful as a pro. Aren't you the one who goes on about how prospects aren't sure things, and therefore aren't as good as those who've made it to the major league level?

Williamson is a right hander who gives up a mediocre amount of baserunners and strikes out a ton of guys. He's worth more than two guys who become a couple of the worst pitchers at our Low A affiliate.

I suppose every contending team is looking for a decent reliever this time of year, but San Diego has been pretty good in that department (top 10 reliever ERA), so I wonder about two things:

(1) Could Hendry have done better with a more "desperate" team looking for relief (i.e. the White Sox)?

(2) Is San Diego accumulating relievers to make a trade for 3B?
