Either that or Guzman

Oh I guess that would be alright, too.

Is it wrong for me to rather see Hill or Guzman instead of Prior? I really just want the Cubs to stop relying on him and Wood. I'd rather see one of our promising minor league guys over a guy who's been on the DL more and more as the last couple years have gone on.

With the way the season is its understandable, but you can't just toss him under the table. If he can ever stay healthy I think he could be a better pitcher than Zambrano.

At this point I would almost like to see a 6 man rotation where Z goes on normal rest and the other 5 rotate through the other days with extra rest. It saves a guy like Marshall from getting too tired being that he's never pitched this much and saves Prior from further possible injury, and allows us to see everyone. I'm sure that it is unlikely, but it would be interesting.

Just for kicks it would work out like

Zambrano

Marshall

Marmol

Prior

Hill

Zambrano

Guzman

....

Then it gets tricky where you could just push everyone back a day or put most guys on normal rest but give Marshall an extended rest where he is the 12th man in an emergency.

You would need 12 pitchers but we tend to do that anyway.

Here is what I want to see happen

I want to see them shut Prior down for the rest of the year.. and then call up Hill or Guzman then I want them to trade Williamson for some minor league prostpects and call up Hill.

Then have a 6 man rotation the rest of the season:

Zambrano

Maddux

Marmol

Marshal

Prior

Hill/Guzman (give each one every other 6th start and use them in the bull pen in between starts)

or even better stick to a 5 man rotation and go with this:

Zambrano

Maddux

Marmol

Marshal

Prior/Hill/Guzman (give each one every third start and use them in the bull pen in between starts)

This post is kind of contradictary. First the whole thread is based on the basis that Maddux is traded so he shouldn't be included. Secondly, you say shut down Prior, but then include him in one of the scenarios.

your absolutly right... I made a mistake here is what i meant to say

Then have a semi-6 man rotation the rest of the season:

Marmol

Marshal

Hill/Guzman (give each one every other 5th start and use them in the bull pen in between starts)

or even better stick to a 5 man rotation, dont shut Prior down and go with this:

At least you think Dusty doesn't belong in Chicago...

I've gotten to the point where I think the Cubs should trade Prior in the offseason, even if it means getting a mediocre prospect or eating salary. This organization has plenty of good young pitching prospects on which to build, and I'm getting tired of Wood/Prior saga.

The only veteran pitcher I'd be willing to sign for 2007 is Mad Dog, so he can serve as a mentor to prospects like Marshall, Marmol, and Wells.

Glendon Rusch. :puke:
hence why i said we should trade him

"dude, we have to win games. we can't just throw young guys out there. not when we have veteran options. glendon can keep us in games."
other than yesterdays game and his last start... I can not think of a single time he has KEPT us in a game.

I dont think we should give up on Prior until he doesnt show up to spring training ready to play.... then DFA him and forget about it. and who is Wells????? Never heard that name before.

Rusch has negative value at his salary. We would have to trade him for nothing and eat salary. Better to keep him and not play him. Better still to cut him.

I don't think being tired of the saga is a good reason to give Prior away. I understand your frustration, but he could still get it turned around. Look at the careers of Curt Schilling, Jason Schmidt, Chris Carpenter . . . there is no reason to give him away.

ok so then just DFA him... if his trade value is so low.

I would completely agree with that.

and who is Wells????? Never heard that name before.

Randy Wells. A converted catcher who is having a great season at AA and now AAA. He should probably rank between 10 and 20 in the Cubs top prospects. His best asset is his control, he has an 88-92 mph FB, plus change and average slider.

Marmol has much better stuff...and worse control. Also, Wells isn't on the 40-man roster as of now.
