this is the first one that I'm truly having to think about. I own a total of 1 album from each band. I used to love them both, but have since soured on them (Green Day due to excessive exposure, Pearl Jam due to excessive smugness)

of course, the winner faces a #1 seed, so it may be a moot point

Absolutely, I could not have put it better. Throughout my teenage years in the mid 90's, when I was drumming for rock bands at party's and stuff, we played ALOT of Pearl Jam and Greenday stuff. I personally enjoyed playing drums on Green Day tunes because they are so quick and fun. Tough decision, but I went with Pearl Jam because I feel that Green Day has alot of songs that sound very similar. I'm not a fan of bands that stick to one formula of tune. I realize Green Day has improved in recent years with that, but I still went with Pearl Jam.

I've heard that Green Day is fantastic live while Pearl Jam sucks live.

Tough call for me too, but at their peak I liked Green Day more.

I've only seen Pearl Jam live once, (and never seen GD) but I thought it was outstanding.

I think I'm in the minority as a big PJ fan. Green Day is fine, but they're nothing special to me.

McCready and Gossard are completely underrated guitar players. Vedder is great when he sings, terrible when he does his "all one note that's not a note" vocals.

I think Green Day is a tad underseeded considering they pretty much solely were responsible for people actually listening to punk again in the mid 90s, but they will lose to the #1 anyway. GD's the pick.

Not a hard choice for me, Pearl Jam by a wide margin. I like some Green Day now and again, but they aren't anything special.

Wow...as similar as our opinions may be on some topics, we're clearly not on the same page with music. GD by a mile for me.

I went with Green Day. I like Pearl Jam, but the Dookie/Insomniac era was too good to deny. Panic Song is still in regular rotation on my Ipod.

This was a really tough choice. Musicianship vs. Song Writing. I think Billy Joe is a better writer, but I really like McCready and Gossard (or is it Gossage? No, that's a baseball player). I pick Pearl Jam on a buzzer beating full court shot

Wow the results have me surprised. It thought it would be Green Day by a mile, especially with their new album being decent and all that.

Green Day. Am I the only Green Day fan who doesn't like the American Idiot album?

EDIT to include the bolded part.

You mean mall punk?

Don't call it punk plz. It's fine if you like that music, but real punk would scare most Greenday/Simple Plan/Blink 182 fans.

Pearl Jam gets the vote because American Idiot and Warning have turned me from a fan to someone who would kick Billie Joe Armstrong in the balls if given the chance.

I hate that album, and I've liked every other one.

I had to vote Green Day. I saw them play live in Milwaukee in 2000 and it was the (then) best show I'd ever seen. It was amazing, they played like 7 tunes and said that was the end of their setlist. People started booing and then Billy Joe explained it was the end of the SET list, and that the next two hours they'd be taking requests. And they did. They played so much old stuff and crazy covers. It was totally amazing.

Too bad American Idiot was so terrible.

I refuse to vote for either of these.

Oh come on. Pearl Jam has actually had some very listenable stuff over the years. Green Day always gets trashed on by folks---they're much better than they get credit for.
