I was listening to a radio station out of Florida today. They were talking about how the Yankee's were looking to trade for Abreau as "The Phillies basically want to get rid of his salary and will take about anything for him."

I find it hard to believe this is entirely true. I'm sure the Phils want something for him.

Abreau would certainly be an upgrade, but what are the Phils needs and an even better questions is............... how desperate are they to get rid of his salary?

I don't know about that, but I do know his OBP is .440; his SLG is .467; his BA is.286; and his OPS is .908. I would certainly want his left-handed bat at Wrigley, and his arm (I'm sure he has a great arm) in RF. Of course, Hendry won't do it.

I know the Tiger are after Abreu and Dombrowski and the Tigers ownership I'm sure will make a big play to get that big lefty bat in the lineup.

People have to remember that Abreu has a no-trade clause. I'm sure he wants out of Philly with the way he's being treated by Philly fans, but he might not waive that no-trade clause to go to certain.

Tigers don't want to give up Zumaya. I think the Phils would be very wise to trade Abreu. The loss from Abreu to Victorino full time would be big #'s wise, but could be made up by natural progression of Howard and Utley, and increased production at 3B and/or C. Abreu's contract isn't so bad where the Phils should have to eat much, if any, of it. If they can get a young 3B and a couple prospects, they can go out and get into the Zito sweepstakes with the money they are paying Abreu/Bell/Lieberthal.

It would be great if the Cubs got Abreu, but I don't see the motivation/willingness to give up anything for him.

Why would the Cubs make a deal for them when they are so hopelessly out of contention and JJ is maning RF for 2 more years?

Maybe trade Pierre and move JJ to CF? But I can't see Hendry being that creative.

Trade Pierre and move Jones to LF. I think the Cubs will probably toss Murton aside like Choi, Hill, and Dubois before him. Jones is better suited for LF anyway.

I think the Cubs would be very interested, but I don't know if they have what the Phils would want.

Since they have David Bell/Nunez at third base they might ask for Aramis Ramirez. Unless they have a third base prospect they are waiting on.

That's true. I forgot and was thinking that they were just looking to rid tthemselves of Abreu.

Some of my personal opinions of what it would take to get Abreu and who would be interested.

To Dodgers for Laroche and Broxton

To Angels for McPherson, Mathis, pitching prospect

To Detroit for Humberto Sanchez, and others

To Texas for Hank Blalock and Diamond along with Jon Lieber and cash.

To Yankees for Duncan, Melky and a pitching prospect not named Hughes

If Murtons sucess mirros that group and Hendry gets the return he got on those players Kudos to Hendry on another steal.

can you imagine, not to long ago, we could have had that deal, and Prior has done nothing and Abreu is still the same all world player, and that deal is probably off the table now.
