I wouldn't trade any of the back 3 bullpen guys. Bullpen pitchers simply will not command upper prospects and the Cubs don't need lesser prospects right now.

Plenty of high quality baseball players have been acquired by trading away relievers. But it doesn't just have to be a 1 man deal. Throw him in with Walker, Jones or Pierre and the deal could be sweetened.

Jon Garland/Matt Karchner leaps to mind.

Who did the Cubs trade to Pitt for that right handed middle relief pitcher in 2003? I can't remember his name....either I suppose.

They didn't. Their trades with Pittsburgh that year were Ramirez/Lofton and Simon (separate trades). Looking at the 2003 Cubs page on Baseball Reference, I don't think they traded for any pitchers that year, although they did sign a few as free agents (Mike Remlinger, Dave Veres, Mark Guthrie, ans Shawn Estes).

It wasn't Pitt and I don't think it was '03, but are you talking David Weathers?

No, Weathers was closing for Milwaukee. The Cubs traded Ruben Quevedo and Pete Zoccolillo for Weathers and Roberto Miniel.

In 1992 the Cubs traded Danny Jackson to the Pirates for the great Steve Buechele.

Steve Buchele's claim to fame is that he was roommates with John Elway at Stanford. :)

He had a pretty sweet mullet too, didn't he?

was Larry Anderson a reliever when the Red Sox traded Bagwell for him?

During the off season many people here were concerned about the 3 year deals given out to Eyre and Howry. Trading one of them could prevent a repeat of the Mike Remlinger experience, especially since Baker seems determined to run bot Howry and Eyre out there every chance he gets.

A couple random thoughts:

The Tigers reportedly are looking for a LH bat. Perhaps Jones' rep as a Sox killer could prove handy there. Could they get Thames?

Are the Marlins still looking to trade Cabrera and Willis?

Yeah, Weathers!

The Cubs acquired Weathers and a minor league pitcher from the Brewers for Pete Zoccolillo and Ruben "Fat is when a person is like" Quevedo.

Could Walker be the LH bat to send to the Tigers?

Polanco is playing second for them still I believe. I am not sure how or where Walker would fit into their lineup.

Is Shelton their DH, or does he play a lot of first?

I think Shelton is playing a lot of first. My guess is they could work Walker in at DH, 2b, and 1b. Between those spots, he should be able to get quite a few AB's.
