I keep hearing that my boy is going to be sent down on Monday, which is the first and only Cub game (probably) that I will see this year. What a traumatic turn of events for me. I know he'll finally get some playing time, but I am still very frustrated. Whoever is running the team after Baker better recognize the talent in Murton, especially his ability to walk.

My question is this: Are their there other plausible, or even possible scenarios where Murton will remain with the club?

At this point it might be better for him to work things out in AAA with Von Joshua than being platooned with frickin Freddy Bynum and working with the clowns that are Sarge and Clines.

Poor Murton got Bakered... last year Murton was awesome, and at the beginning of this year her was holding his own as well, til dusty started giving him pointers about what he was doing wrong, and its all been down hill from there.. Anyone have a link to that article.. I'd be interesting to see his stats before that article, then his stats after it..

well, Matt hasn't pitched very well this year. In addition, his play at 2b has been atrocious.

For the love of God, why is he even rumored to be sent down? He's nowhere near one of the worst players on this team. Sending him down does nothing positive for the guy.

Is there been some written story about Murton going down? Or is this still just speculation here on this board?

It does make sense if you follow the Cubs. What move would a forward thinking organization that really is committed to fielding a good team in the future make. DFA any of Perez, Mabry, Womack or Bynum. So since the Cubs are not run with common sense and intelligence what do they do. Send down a player that is holding his own(especially since we are not in contention) and may actually have a future in MLB.

He is the only position player on the team other than Cedeno who has any options. The problem is caused by the fact that we can't have less than 43 pitchers in the pen at any time, despite every inning ever going to Eyre and Howry.

And there is the problem. Searching through your more valuable commodities for who has options rather than cutting ties with the dead weight that serves no purpose.

I resent that comment!!!!

clowns aren't that bad, in fact they are fun and funny, what these two guys have done to the yng hitters is more like a comparison to a B-rated horror movie like Freddy Kruger then to clown.

I heard a rumor in the last 24 hours that either Felix Pie or Buck Coats would be joining the Cubs in Minnesota. Not going to name the source, but I was asked if I had heard the rumor. Buck Coats isn't on the 40-man, so that would only add to the confusion.

Not sure why Matt would be sent down. I have full confidence on Von Joshua as an instructor. If the Cubs are sending Matt down to work with Von, the Cubs would be better off bringing Von to the Majors.

I've been in favor of bringing up Von since the 1st week of May.

Seriously, half of you guys remind me of white sox fans that were in love with arron rowand..no matter how bad the guy preforms..you guys stil lare in love with the guy...I like Matt murton, but it seems like no matter how much he sucks or screws up...you guys are always so hign and mighty on him...So if they send him down to Triple A so what, he needs it, the man has to learn to hit righties.. sure he was hot for a month or two... but what about after that...NOTHING... whats he have 4 RBI's since like may 1st??? He is not our solution to left field...To sum of you, its sad but true...They guy has potential to be a star once he straightens up and learns to hit righties and not to turn on every inside pitch and hit into constant groundballs and double plays...He will not win us a world series...We need a man like carlos lee out there...the thing is with murton , hes not consistent, dosent have a whole lot of power, below average to average defense out in left...So we all have to get over this an love of matt murton... I dont know if its the orange hair or what but what i dont get is how can you guys rip on Jaque jones when the man is killing murton in every single category, but no matter what everyone still praises matt murton and give him the easy way out no matter how crappy he performs...

First off, I don't know how you can ask for consistency and then want carlos lee.

second off, freddie bynum sucks, and he would be Matt's replacement.

third off, despite the vast canyon between the batting averages of Jones and Murton, Murt STILL carries the higher OBP, which most people here place at a much higher premium than SLG or AVG.

Fourth, he's cheap. Jones isn't, and he's here for a while.

I know C Lee isnt mister consistent, but I rather have someone who can hit over 30 HR's and 100 RBI's in the lineup ... What has a better chance of gettin u to the playoffs..A heart of the order of DLee,CLee,and Ramierz, or those two and murton, if you think the second ur nuts...Im not even gonna go into freddie bynum, thats just joke... Money dosent matter, its not our money so why should we care, We just want high caliber players on the team that can make us a winning team and take us to the world series...The last guy we had in left that was a beast was Moises Alou, and now are times i miss him the most..Dont get me wrong, I Like Matt murton alot, but hes just not the answer for us... only 4 HR's and 21 RBI's.. comeon..sure hes cheap...but what do we care about how cheap a player is if hes not going to put up numbers...its 98 years..this is no time to worry about building up Young players, low salarys and not spending alot of money.. I dont know about you guys im not waiting till 2024 for prospects and guys like matt murton to win me a world series...I want it now... So lets sign C Lee and Barry Zito and lets go from there

No offense, but I am NOT enamored with Carlos Lee. I mean if we go after Carlos, that would mean the Cubs are subscribing to the "mashers" theory again, and I don't want an offense to be built around the three run homerun. I want an offense, that can do it all. Hit for average/power, can run, can play both small and long ball. I haven't given up on Murton, and I believe he will still be a very good player.

I think it is obvious that Murton has struggled, but I am not sure of the reasons why. It could be Dusty, but remember, it was Murton who said how much Dusty helped him last year. Either way though, I think it would be a huge mistake to send him to AAA, mainly for two reasons. First, it doesn't help Matt. He should stay up in the Bigs and gain experience that he can use next year and throughout his career. Second, and this is my worry, it shows that the Cubs a) think they can compete now and b) think Freddie Bynum is a better player than Murton. This year is history, I can't believe the Chubbs could be that stupid. Sadly though, I can easily understand how they think Freddie Bynum is a superior player. That's just how the management is. A player that barely breaks the .300 OBP mark should get 400 ABs.

Where oh where is Mark Cuban!?

They'll probably play Nevin in LF instead of developing Murton for next year/possible trade value raising. Which would be OK, IF the cubs were like 5-6 games out of the wildcard I'd have no problem with it. As Nevin is really performing better than Murton right now. But they aren't and they need to plan for next year. What a complete friggen joke this organazation is. And I use that word loosly because that's not the word I'd use to describe them.

I want an offense that scores runs. I don't care how.

This leads me to beleive that a transaction for the Cubs is imminent. I wouldn't leave Murton on AAA for too long, especially because we are so obviously out of the race.

Man I hope they don't bring up Pie. He's just not ready for the bigs.

If they're going to bring up an outfielder they should bring up Negron. He's killing the ball at AA and he's already on the 40-man roster. Pie should not be brought up. He's struggling enough at AAA. Why bring him up to the majors? Doesn't make much sense.
