I will see Boise when they face Salem-Kaizer starting tomorrow. It looks like Boise is in for a losing season (although as of yesterday they were in a 4-way tie for first place in the west), but that doesn't mean they will not have decent prospects. Last year Atkins, Reed, Muyco, and Mota were all with Boise. Any suggestions on who I should watch this year?

Probable Starters:

Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (7-2, 3.46 ERA, 80.2 IP, 60/38, 1.48 WHIP) vs. RHP Seth Etherton (3-3, 4.70)

West Tenn: RHP Sean Gallagher (1-0, 3.60 ERA, 5 IP, 5/4, 1.80 WHIP)

Daytona: LHP Donald Veal (Peoria: 5-3, 2.69 ERA, 73.2 IP, 86/40, 1.14 WHIP) vs LHP Alberto Bastardo (2-3, 3.99 ERA)

Peoria: LHP Jesus Yepez (2-3, 3.50 ERA, 61.2 IP, 32/35, 1.44 WHIP) vs. RHP Kyle Sadlowski (4-1, 3.99 ERA)

Mesa: ??

Veal makes his Daytona debut.

LHP Mark Pawelek

RHP Billy Petrick

RHP Jeff Samardzija

SS Sammy Baez

OF DJ Lewis

Eventually Tyler Colvin should end up in Boise too. Other intriguing names are LHP Jeremy Papelbon, RHP Billy Muldowney and 1B Russ Canzler.

Former OF Alberto Albuquerque started the game for Mesa, going an inning and giving up a run on two hits and two walks. 19 year old Marco Carrillo is now pitching in relief, going four scoreless.

Mesa and the Royals are tied at 1 going into the 6th.

The Q & A sessions with Eric Patterson & Brandon Sing were completed this afternoon. They will be posted once we have a chance to get them typed out. Chris Walker has graciously agreed to do a Q & A session as well! Chris is a great young man and was a pleasure to get to visit with. A thread to submit questions to Chris will be up ASAP!

The next in the line of position players getting a tryout at pitcher down in Mesa? 2B Pedro Lopez!

And yes, for those of you John Wayne fans out there, the Royals have a pitcher named McLintock(!) in their system.

Hoffpauir with HR #7 to put Iowa up 1-0. He's had a bit of a rough June, but his OPS is still .832.

Donald Veal's debut going well so far:

5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2/1. Heck, he has more grounds outs than fly outs (7 to 5)!

Daytona leads it 1-0, thanks in part to a catching error by Vero Beach's pitcher. I would like to once again point out that VB's pitcher's name is Bastardo. :mamoru:

Peoria puts up a 5-spot in the first inning. They lead it 5-0 after 2.

Yepez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0/1

West Tenn leads it 1-0 in the second inning (thanks to a Chris Walker triple and an EPatt RBI single).

Gallagher: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1/2

Kevin Goldstein said that Veal may move into the Cubs top spot for prospects. It looks like he thinks Pie, Pawly and Veal are the top 3 in no order.

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5232

He also said Gallagher has been 92-94 this spring and then just had some tidbits on others.

Interesting read, thanks. I'm shocked Veal would be top-3 worthy considering his control problems and the number of flyouts he has surrendered.

Veal clocked in the "mid-90s."

93 the highest I saw all season....

The Daytona announcer said he put something extra on that particular pitch, so I'm guessing he was consistently in the lower 90s.

Veal's night is done, he doesn't make it out of the 6th. He gave up 2 walks, an unearned run and had a costly error on a pickoff in the 6th.

Veal's final line is: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3/3, as Weber came in and got the job done.

PIE!

HR #7 to right-center on a 1-0 pitch. He had an outfield assist (8-6-5) the inning before.

Was it off of a RH or LH pitcher?

Seth Etherton, a righty.

i sure hope not!!!!! send him straight to O'Brien Field.

I think because Colvin is raw for a college hitter, he might start out in Boise. I definitely think he'll end up in Peoria this season - at the very least so he can get some playoff experience.

Hoffpauir and Fontenot go back-to-back after the Restovich strikeout!

Sweet. MiLB.com has video of Pie's RBI triple from the other day:
