Is he for sure starting?

If so, Happy Pawelek day everyone!

I can't think of a better opening day starter :D. It's been awhile since we've got to celebrate Pawelek day, I missed it!

Don't look so sad Mark, it's Mark Pawelek Day!

The Idaho Statesman[/url]"]Notre Dame two-sport standout Jeff Samardzija is expected to be at Memorial Stadium tonight when the Hawks open the season against the Eugene Emeralds.

Samardzija, a fifth-round draft pick, signed a contract with the Hawks' parent club, the Chicago Cubs, last weekend. The right-hander from Valparaiso, Ind., was an All-American wide receiver for Notre Dame last fall.

"We're excited to have him," Hawks general manager Todd Rahr said.

Since the Boise game is at home, you can watch it online (links in the "listening/watching" sticky thread at the top of the page).

I know its a long ways away, but NEXT year, if pawelek puts up impressive numbers THIS year, where will he pitch? Peoria, or Daytona?

In the article I read Boise's Manager said he has the stuff, its just a matter of him repeating his delivery.

so...... what do you all think?

He could get to Peoria this year itself. If not, the Cubs will make sure he starts at Peoria next year, they'll be pretty deliberate with him.

Not a good start for Ryu in the 1st. First batter he faced, he allowed a homer. After getting the next 2 outs, he allowed a double and then a single. Luckily for Ryu, Montanez threw the runner out trying to score from 2nd on the single. Iowa lines up like this:

Theriot

Pie

Restovich

Hoffpauir

Montanez

McGehee

Coats

Soto

Ryu

That cracked me up for some reason. It was coming across as one of the most boring blurbs in news history and it ended with "we're excited". I pictured him saying it like Eeyore.

Iowa trails 2-0 at the bottom of the 5th. Ryu through 5: 8 hits, 2 ER's, 1 BB, 3 K's. Hoffpauir has a double, Theriot, McGehee, and Coats have the other Iowa hits.

What's wrong with Pie? He has just stopped hitting.

He's in a major, major, major slump. He's not ready for the Show. Needs another year at least!

I wouldn't quite go that far. His walk rate this season has actually been an improvement over past years, which is quite welcome for a player like him. His power has been a bit lacking, but I think he'll get it back given time.

He'll adjust to AAA pitching in a reasonable amount of time. A hot streak will get his average back up to where people will want it to be. I think he'll have a good one before the summer is over.
