I'd much rather the Cubs try and find the next Miguel Cabrera than trade half the farm system to get the current version. Venezuela has been a nice source of talent for the Cubs in the past.......Zambrano & Cedeno. I wish they would spend more effort trying to sign international talent.

Unfortunately, someone has either kidnapped our scout in Venezuela (Ortega) or the organization has decided to not spend money top $ to sign international talent. Really a shame, because the organization has the $ but I guess they've felt their money is more wisely spent by offering multi year deals to Neifi Perez and Glendon Rusch.

Yeah. Not sure if you saw a post I made in another thread, but if they fired Dusty and paid 1m for his replacement, they'd have 3m right there to spend on scouting in the DR, Japan, Venezuela, PR, South Korea and Mexico.

I'm quite certain that a manager making 1m could do what Dusty is doing for the Cubs at 4m.

Prior to the Dodgers/D-Back/Angels/team with great prospects

Prospects to Marlins

Cabrera to Cubs

Of the teams suggested, I rather see him go to the Angels. That way when he wins 20 games a year for the next 15 years, he will be in the AL. I've been reluctant to trade away Prior, but a lineup with Lee, Cabrera, Ramirez, and Barrett makes me drool.

I would absolutely love it if the Cubs were somehow able to acquire Cabrera. I would be willing to give up anybody except DLee and Z.

Keep in mind they wouldn't even want DLee or Z considering their whole objective is getting rid of payroll and building their system with good, young affordable players. Otherwise they would just keep Cabrera for the remainder of the year unless they feel that they couldn't re sign him no matter how much they offer.

I know. I was just throwing out there that anybody on the team is available to get Cabrera if needed such as a three way deal. As long as we don't give up WAY too much of course.

No way does Victor Zambrano nets Scott Kazmir.....oh wait...nm.

No way does AJ alphabet nets Joe Nathan (All Star closer), Francisco Liriano (best young lefty prospect in the game) and Boof Bonser.....nm..

The fact is nobody can say "no way", and nobody can say what it would take to acquire somebody. The RIGHT term is "highly unlikely", not "no way." And I do think Gallagher (if he conitnues to pitch lights out) and Guzman continues to build on his last outing, along with a solid prospect could net Gomes and a relief prospect.

Argue away the semantics, but both the trades you mentioned were head-scratchers at the time for most folks. We'll see if Tampa has really changed their steep price demands with a new GM.

I'm not arguing "semantics", there is absolutely NO "absolute" in baseball. Even Albert Pujols can be traded. Highly unlikely, but still the possibility is there. And people are making Gomes out to be some kind of "savior" type hitter, which he is NOT. The suggestion that it would take a "Miguel Cabrera" type package to land Gomes, is downright LAUGHABLE. IMO, Gallagher and Guzman (talent wise) would be about right for Gomez, considering that lack of pitching, and the depth of OF prospects in the DRays system. With Gauthright/Dukes/Bankston (the KID has MONSTER power)/Young with Crawford and Baldelli, that's alot of talent. And, IMO, Gomes is NOT worth more then two very good prospects, which Gallagher and Guzman are. Guzman, is clearly as talented as Santana, or atleast has the stuff to rival Santana. Gallagher is SIMPLY going to win at the ML level, simply because he knows how to pitch. He's kind of a Mark Buehrle type pitcher, don't really have great stuff, but now how to used his stuff the best. Adding Guzman/Gallagher for Gomes makes more sense then trading Crawford for Santana.

Call it semantics, which you would be clearly wrong, if you want, but the fact remains, Gomes is attainable for Gallagher/Guzman.

I don't know how else to put it but that Guzman and Gallagher are not mini Santana and Buehrle respectively, and that there's no way the Devil Rays are trading their 900 OPS outfielder for them.
