What are the Cubs going to do with this guy? He's bounced around from AAA to MLB this year enough. Either keep him in the bigs or trade him for value. He's a good pickup for a lot of ballclubs if the Cubs dont want him in their pen. That, or trade Novoa or Aardsma to make room for this guy. He has no business in AAA when other big league clubs would like to have him.

IP.......H....BB....K

22.1...16....6....35!

Didnt they send him to AAA to improve his control? Looks to me like he may have answered that.

Aardsma could be packaged in a deal to a non-conteder. I dont think a contender would want him.

Novoa could be packaged to either or. He is having more MLB success and could be a decent BP addition to conteder. Plus he is cheap and would be under that teams control for many more years, so Cubs will probably get more value out of him.

Wuertz-Contenders dont really make July trades for AAA players, even though he might be better than Aardsma or Novoa.

Something needs to be done. Either call Wuertz up immediately when he is egibile for the Cubs again or trade Aardsma or Novoa to make room for him. This is getting silly.

i agree that wuertz should get a call up soon but i wouldnt be so quick to trade aardsma. he has an overpowering fastball and a good breakingball and could be a future closer imo. trade novoa & williamson & keep wuertz & aardsma in the pen. atlee (now in iowa), rapada & cherry have been dominating out of the pen this year in AA so they might get a look this year too. lightenberg has been lights out (no pun intended) at iowa and a club looking for a closer might be interested in him too. perhaps the cubs should even consider trading howry with so many good young arms in the pen on the horizion.

For some reason, Dusty just doesn't use Wuertz. The last time he was up, I think he may have made one appearance in about 1 1/2 weeks.

Agreed. Aardsma needs to work on his control but if he can improve on that, he'll be an effective big league pitcher.

This describes a lot of Cubs pitchers. If they could have greater control they'd be good pitchers. The problem is they don't. I'm not sure why, but the Cubs just don't seem to emphasize throwing strikes, or location. Or they don't know how to develop guys who can throw strikes.

whereas last year he used him like 22 games in a row

he seemed to be ok in iowa with 6 bb in 20 ip. the control is there he just needs to find it in the majors (ala hill).

Dude, this year we got Bobby and Scott for one reason, man. To pitch every game. If I don't use them every game, people will wonder why we signed relief pitchers to such huge contracts, dude.

The correct answer is to send down Guzman and call up Weurtz if you insist on having a 38 man pitching staff.

I've been away a while. Is Guzman really sitting in the bullpen right now?

Yes. Luckily, he's available to come in today after the first 8 hitters put balls down Kenmore.

Yes, which is what makes Rusch's start even more mind-boggling.

Wuertz should've been pitching in Chicago since Opening Day.

No man, a bad week by a young pitcher is all it takes to be sent down. Perfectly legitimate use of roster space.

That poor Spring Training definitely turned out to be an indicator that he was in for a bad year.

How prophetic. :D
