I'm telling you, Guzman, Marshall and Hill should get into some sort of tag team rotation where they try to get 3-4 innings from two of those guys every 5th game.

Not as crazy as some here might think.

I know some clubs use tandem starters in the minors - each guy expected to throw about 4 innings.

The Cubs have 12 pitchers on the roster, so it's not like they couldn't do that sort of thing.

Hill/Guzman and Wood/Marshall?

I've wondered why not let Wood/Prior pitch the same game, about 4-5 innings each, as they "inch" (to borrow Len's adjective) their way back from the DL. It'd save the pen for a day.

That's what irks me. We ALL knew Guzman was a better choice. Let's see. Rusch Sucks - Guzman has had some struggles but has been way better than rusch. Rusch will always suck, Guzman could be in the Cubs future, Rusch is not. Give the rookie some MLB experience? Or the washed up vet with a 7.8 ERA a chance to give up 9 runs? ? ? Hmmmm. . . . Rusch Guzman Rusch Guzman Rusch Guz Rusch Guz, Guz Rusch Rusch Guz, Guz Guz Guz, Rusch Rusch Rusch, Guz Rusch Guzman Rusch, Rusch Guzman Guzman. . . Hmmmmm. Hard choice.

Stop this talk right now. You're asking Dusty to think creatively (and sensibly). Dusty's idea of creativity is to let the pitcher hit and pull him out the next inning.

Everyone talks about how conservative NFL coaches are - no one tries anything radically different - but the same is true for baseball management.

Tandem starters are used in some minor league systems, but no one does it on the major league level.

You think any reporter will have the balls to ask Dusty why he didn't start Guzman instead of Rusch?

`I wish there was a reporter who had the balls to ask Dusty and Hendry what are they still doing here.
