Just curious - he hadn't started the past 2 nights and didn't play tonight.

I have been at the 2 games and just curious on what the hell is going on. Also, going tomorrow afternoon and if Neifi is starting and batting 2nd again tomorrow night, I'm going to go nuts.

So why isn't he playing? Because he's almost batting .300 or what?

Here's my stab at it:

Dusty has Nevin playing first because he has some pop and because a few pesky press types were asking why the Cubs bothered trading for him if he was never going to play.

But Nevin has a questionable glove at 1B, pluswhise Nevin was too sore to play the field for a couple of days after his first start at 1B (riiight).

Since DLee is still out, Nevin is now the bat guy at 1B and the default 1Bman. But since he doesn't have a great D-reputation and you have a young guy playing SS, you need a good glove at 2B to compensate for both. Neifi is a good option since he switch hits and has a good glove. Nevin's bat replaces Walker's bat, and Neifi's glove is better than Walker's glove.

That's the best I can come up with.

So Serena, I have to dispute the bolded part. Just because you can walk up to the plate and stand in either batters' box, and "swing a bat" doesn't mean you can label a switch-hitter. Guys like Chipper Jones, Lance Berkman, Mark Teixeria, Carlos Beltran, Victor Martinez, Jorge Posada, Jason Varitek are insulted at the mere suggestion that Perez is a "switch-hitter."

Just call Perez an "Equal Opportunity Activist" cause he doesn't discrimate against a particular pitcher, he is crap to every pitcher in baseball. 8)

Walker has been out of the lineup because a deal is close to being finalized. Walker for Enrique Wilson. Wilson is more of the ideal player that Hendry and Dusty would like to see playing for the Cubs. He hardly ever clogs up the bases.

Because Dusty is the "Statmaster" he seen perez had a better history against oswalt, and he still stuck him even though hes batting like .210

Walker could be batting .500 and he would stll sit him for Perez... Just because perez has a ok history against certain pitchers... Remember " he also saved us last year"

Also, what I dont get, is why Nevin and walker havent played at the same time yet.. you have one or the other, lined next in the field to womack or perez... Dusty play them at the same freakin time for god sakes for the best pothetic lineup we have...atleast it could bring in a few more runs...I think a couple of mute 12 year olds could put in a better freakin lineup...Neifi perez does not belong in the majors

Maybe Dusty thought he could double switch Perez and Walker at a really key time and win the game because of his really awesome move. God forbid you have Walker hitting in front of 3 guys that went 8-12. Walker has to be hurt because there is no reason for this type of move unless the Cubs are trying for the #1 pick in next Junes draft. They are in the 4 slot right now.

I don't disagree!

That's my best shot at Dusty's thought process, not my own thought process.

Neifi was quoted after his big game the other day as saying he hasn't been hitting well because he hasn't had regular playing time. My guess is that Baker is trying to give him regular playing time to get his swing down and see what happens.

Here it is...

“Neifi and Michael (Barrett, 6-for-17) are really the only two guys who have hit Oswalt in our lineup,” Baker said. “Plus, Oswalt is better against left-handers than he is right-handers.”

Perez went 0-for-3 Wednesday against Oswalt.

Hahaha...he thought Neifi was the best option offensively...hahahahahaha.

Baker's man-love for Neifi overrules any advantage gained by Walker's superior offencive statistics.

This just boggles my mind. Really.

I don't hate Neifi, but Jeez, come on.

Neifi reminds me of a team I played on where the coach's kid got all sorts of PT even though he stunk. Neifi is the coach's kid.

Thanks for the post - Having an oversensitive innate sense of justice, I knew I had a long-forgotten cause of that feeling of wanting to absolutely scream when I saw Neifi these past 2 nights. This is EXACTLY the same feeling dredged up from those Little League days. What's funny is that by the time Pony League came around, the coaches were able to discern who should actually be getting PT, now we're seeing it played out at the (supposed) ML level.

Oswalt is better against lefties, so I put in Neifi, who switch hits, but batted lefty, even though he could've batted righty and had a statistical advantage.

I didn't know we could make trades with the independent leagues.

Enrique's in the Red Sox system. Currently sucking at AAA.

And just to be fair. How can one GM be so stupid as to sign Neifi et al to multiple year deals when they shouldn't have been signed at all.

Did Perez bat RH last night? I didnt notice. I am guessing not. What really blew my mind was not only did Perez start and bat 2nd, Dusty thought so little of him he pinch hit for him in a key spot later in the game. Is his defense that superior at 2nd!!! I cannot believe how stupid all this logic seems. Just for my understanding what were Perez's career #s against Oswalt before last night. Just for comparision what were Walkers and Womacks, If someone has those #s, I dont want anyone to go thru the trouble of looking them up for me if not.
