Howry. I've never seen a pitcher who struggles as much as he does put up decent stats.

My guess is he's getting ready for a big time meltdown.

I'll let you know that I assembled the data. This year, 16 of the 30 teams have more than a 5% difference between their regular OBP and their OBP with RISP, so more than half have a significant difference between those two numbers.

When comparing regular OBP and OBP of RISP w/2 outs, the differences grow even wider. 19 teams have at least a 5 percent difference. 11 of those teams have a 10% difference. Listen to this though: only 8 teams out of 30 went down from their regular OBP to their OBP of RISP w/2 outs. IThe Cubs: 16.9% down, the widest range either way for any team. If you can't drive runners in during key situations, you don't win.

Philly's 2006 OBP with RISP and 2 outs: .293, 29th in MLB.

Philly's 2005 OBP with RISP and 2 outs: .384, 1st in MLB.

Did Philly hitters suddenly become less clutch or is the sample size too small?

When Andy MacPhail blamed the Cubs' woes on lack of hitting with RISP, he conveniently ignored that they were at the bottom of the league in overall BA, OBP, and OPS.

okay, i just got here and i have to say that these game threads are useless without Fred. No play by play?

BalsaWoodKeyBoard is drunk, if it makes you feel better.

And several others of us are working on it...and speeding up if this game is any indication

Now I see how Howry does it. Stink it up but get an error somewhere along the line so none of the runs are charged to you

was the play routine or was there some degree of difficulty?

Pretty routine, he was almost to a knee, but less than 90 feet away and threw it about 6 feet from the bag.

I'm torn.

On the one hand, I don't want Howry or Walker to do poorly. I'm a Cubs fan, and I don't like to see one of our guys struggle.

On the other hand, if losing can get rid of Hendry, Baker, MacPhail, and the Trib, then I'm all for it.

Robertson vs. Rusch

Verlander vs. Marmol

Rogers vs. Marshall

Looking at the pitching matchups, looks like we'll be swept by the Tigers this weekend, putting our record at 26-42 and putting us on pace for a record of 62-100

So Howry, our best bullpen guy is gonna blow the game for us today? I was actually expecting Dempster to walk the bases loaded in the 9th then give up the game winning hit. Well I guess the game still isn't over yet...
