Sean Gallagher- West Tenn

Let me be the 1st to say that I just got off the phone with Sean and He is on his way To "West Tenn". We were really looking forward to attending the FSL All-Star Game this weekend but with news like this, oh well. I am so happy for Sean and look forward to meeting some of you in the coming weeks in Tenn.

Excellent! I had a feeling it was about to happen but thought it would happen after the All-Star Game. Be sure to let me know when you're going to be in West Tennessee!

Congratulations Sean!

Congrats to Sean! He's that much closer to the Bigs.

He's joining a great rotation: Wells, Shaver, and Mateo are all pitching lights out. Vasquez, among others, is strong in the bullpen. In fact, the team ERA is in the mid-2's. And of course we've seen the success of Marshall and Marmol have had directly up from AA. This reflects well on the pitching coach in West Tenn. with whom Sean will be working.

Yes Sean speaks highly of the Jaxx pitching coach and is excited to join the Jaxx staff. As for the WX he may have a problem getting to them looking at the radar here in florida but I am sure he will make it. Also wanted to know if anybody could recommend a hotel for west tenn. We will be there next week for their homestand and would appreciate all recommendations. txs

That's great!!!!! Congrats to Sean -- well-earned and expected. It must have thrown everyone for a loop given that you all probably had FSL all-star game plans ... but still, really a testimony to all the work he's put in.

There are a few here who can probably help with hotel suggestions. We're planning a trip there in about a month, so I'll be reading them, too.

Any guesses how this will impact the A rotations? Promote one of Atkins or Veal? Whether Gallagher gets replaced by a Peoria rotation or not, will the new rotation pitcher added to one of the two teams be from the roster fill ranks (Billek or Weber or Estrada or some low-level guy like that?) From the young prospect ranks? (Pawelek could theoretically get promoted to Peoria to replace Atkins or Veal, although I know Fleita has said he planned Pawelek for Boise...). Or from the rehab ranks? (Dave Cash? Petrick? Blasko? Another shot for Hagerty? That ex-Phillies guy who was effective last year?...)

The Cubs have shown with guys down in Low A, they will give them the full season to enjoy their success and get used to the daily grind over the course of a long season. They've had chances to promote plenty of guys doing really well down there over the past years, but instead kept them there until towards the end of the season in some cases. So, I doubt Atkins or Veal will get promoted.

Maybe Downs will get another shot. He's due to grow another few inches any day now, right? ;)

I think it depends on Grant Johnson's injury. Billek is currently filling in for Grant, so Weber seems like a likely candidate since he was starting earlier this season. I doubt the Cubs will bump up one of Atkins and Veal so soon for the reasons Outshined already stated.

I wonder how Blasko really is - he's been MIA for 2 years since his surgery now. That can't be a good sign.

EDIT: And congrats to Sean! I was off by less than a week in my prediction! Hopefully - like last year's midseason promotions of Marmol and Marshall from Daytona to West Tenn - Gallagher will be in the bigs sometimes next season.

I wish that Jake Fox had been promoted with him.

Me, too. Hopefully that will be still to come, and soon.

But way to go, Sean. I was waiting for this news and was overjoyed when I saw the title of this thread. Well deserved...
