With all these crippled players I don't know how teams can finish the entire tournament with a full squad.

Nice kick Donovan, way to waste maybe the best chance we would have. Italy scored again, so we get all the help we need. The supposed biggest game in the history of U.S. soccer, trying to become a world power and we can't beat Ghana to advance.

It certainly would've meant a lot to me. And now in South Africa, we get another crappy seeding (albeit less crappy with '98 out of the picture) because of our poor showing. Just very disappointing.

 

And hopefully next time (and later on in this year's cup) the officials let the guys play soccer. The diving and crying has reached a new low.

What an utter disappointment!!! I've (as I'm sure millions of others) been waiting to see how the US would perform and this is what we get! Wow!

 

I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I do appreciate and enjoy watching the athleticism of the players. That being said, it aggravates me to no end to see some of the worlds finest players (of all teams) flopping around and dogging it by laying around writhing in "pain". It really kind of puts the stink on soccer and why many people, at least in America, don't take soccer seriously and seriously detracts from an otherwise very entertaing and emotional sport.

 

On another note, I understand sportsmanship, but what is with the USA and I presume other teams waisting time by purposely kicking the ball out of bounds to allow for an opposing player to wait until being attended to. Why not take advantage of the time until the stretcher crew is sent out? That completely frustrates the heck out of me, because I don't remember that being part of the game some years back.

We've been hearing that for 20+ years. It's not going to happen anytime soon.

 

If anything I think this World Cup may have turned off more people in this country. A lot of people (myself included) were willing to give soccer a chance after hearing about this team that was supposedly going to put us on the map. Instead we got a horrible showing and repeatedly watched guys flopping and writhing around on the ground after little or no contact.

Like others have said, the diving and crying is just pathetic to watch. I shutter to think of what may happen if these guys tried to play hockey or football. I never knew that falling on grass could induce such horrible injuries. Act like a man or at least a youth athlete for crying out loud.
