The DMB goal was called to the letter of the rule, but I guarantee if that had been an Italian player passivly offsides in the keeper's line of sight it would have been overlooked.

This is how I felt too. Add in the fact that Buffon was there and just didn't make the save, and considering we had already been robbed of two players, I think we deserved that goal.

In tangentially related US news, the Socceroos are in a scoreless tie with Brazil at the half. If they can manage even a tie, they have a leg up going into the final game in goal differential. Since there's no chance of the US winning our group, it would be huge if Australia managed to win their group.

Crap, Adriano with a goal in the 49th minute

Adriano, the only professional footballer who would make a decent pirate; his right leg being so useless it could easily be made of wood.

Lalas on Ronaldo: "That's the last time I'm sticking up for that...bloated waste of space."

What is the story behind Ronaldo's lack of endurance?

I don't think it's a lack of endurance, I think it's more of the fact that he's done absolutely nothing on the field in the Cup so far.

Brazil's team was much better with Ronaldo out.

Good God I didn't know that nearly all of France's starters were black. Anyone know what France's demographics are country wise?

Nuts.

Since the beginning of the Third Republic, France does not collect religious or "ethnic" data in census.

Not saying this is true of all of those guys, but the term "ringers" comes to mind.

Also, the French had strong colonial holdings in Africa (see: Algeria) for a number of years.

Makes sense. I guess I may be a little ignorant in this matter, I just didn't know France had that many black players or maybe even citizens.

Anyways, this crowd is very, very loud. I can't even hear the whistles on tv. I can't imagine how these players do it.

EDIT: Just saw your post Transmogrified.

Supposedly France doesn't collect that data. They do have one of the most diverse populations in Europe, but many of them live in inferior conditions.

Although it has been decreasing in recent years, countries bring in guys who are ringers from other nations, throw citizenship at them, and then play them on their national team. Poland four years ago had this tremendous guy from Nigeria (whose name escapes me) who barely got his Polish citizenship processed before the deadline.

This go-round, there are a bunch of guys who were first or second generation Australians with ties back to Croatia. There's a pretty even split between those on the Croatian team and those on the Australian team.

That's very interesting. Thanks for the info Outshined! Anyone know which teams fans are chanting? It seems to be Koreas (who are crazy by the way) but France has a HUGE number there. This crowd has to be one of the best at the World Cup so far.
