My most vivid memory of Gregg is Ozzie Smith mocking his weight after being ejected in NY. I love how Ozzie has a spoteless image but committed one of the most juvenile acts in the game's history. Edited by RynoRules

Gary Gaetti left a cheeseburger on 3B one day while playing for St. Louis too.

My biggest memory of him is the 1997 NLCS in which the strike zone for Marlins pitcher Livan Hernandez was from Orlando to Key West.

Ditto. I've never seen an umpire so blatantly stretch the strike zone.

That being said I hope he has a quick and full recovery.

He's medium sized here. There were definitely days during which he was much bigger.

Bill Murray was guest anouncer one time when Harry was ill and they showed a shot of Gregg and then the outfield double doors that the grounds crew uses at which point Murray said that was how they got Gregg on the field. Thought I was going to die.

Hope things turn out well for Gregg but doesn't sound too good.

I also think he gave Atlanta pitchers a strike zone the size of the Georgia Dome. The moment Bobby Cox starting barking from the dugout the strike zone grew.

But like others have said: that's no reason to hate the guy in the real world. I hope he recovers.

(But I don't know if I could say the same about Angel Hernandez.)

This is really sad.

Alot of people struggle with their weight. Aside from surgery, I don't see a whole lot of success out there. Sure, people lose weight, sometimes alot. But the studies show, nearly all of the time they wind up gaining it back sooner or later. The population as a whole is gaining. That means alot more strokes, heart attacks, etc are on the horizon.

I feel totally terrible that this happened to Gregg. It sounds like he tried to change himself, and it just didn't happen for him. Prayers go out to him and his family.
