Since when has Miller been unlikely to be back this season? Last I heard a mid-June return is expected.

Wade Miller (shoulder) has been shut down following a setback during his rehab process.

Miller hasn't pitched since his May 27 start in extended spring training. The Cubs are hopeful he can resume throwing this week and potentially make another extended spring training start next week. It looks like he won't join the rotation until early July at best.

I'm not so sure they're there yet. I don't know how much pain Wood is really experiencing, but if it's mild (i.e. the pushback is precautionary) then I wouldn't be talking about moving him to the pen, yet. If it continues like this for a handful more starts, maybe.

this would be interesting. because prior could easily be in the same boat when he comes back, or at least a prohibitive pitch count. maddux and z would only want regular rest. you would want to avoid prior and wood starting back to back games to save the bullpen. dusty might have his hands full keeping everyone rested/not rusty.

That would be good if the guy could actually come out and pitch every 6 days. But so far he can not. I kind of hope the Cubs trade Wood. He's not much good in the starting rotation and the Cubs won't move to the pen. Just get rid of him already.

Yeah, nobody is saying to DFA him, just that all things considered, it's best for the Cubs to trade him or not resign him. IF he were to pitch like an allstar the rest of the season, I would pick up the option only because there is hardly anything out there free agency wise to replace him and Maddux. Right now though, Zito is definitely the best of the three to sign.

No it's moronic not to resign him if he pitches well this year. It would also be moronic to pick up his option. There are other things that can be done though, given a good year by Wood - namely an incentive laden contract.
