Forget Guzman and his awful plate discipline, I want Billingsley (if you want a hitter, I'd rather have Kemp).

Matt Kemp's been murdering the ball down at AA this season and projects nicely in RF.

I like, I like.

From today's LA Times:

General Manager Ned Colletti is expected to explore acquiring a veteran starter by the July 31 trading deadline. Greg Maddux is a possibility, although the Dodgers passed up an opportunity this week to acquire a different player from the Chicago Cubs.

Anyone have an idea who the "different player" might be?

No indication of who the Cubs might be seeking. The Dodgers do have a deep farm system fwiw.

am guessing pierre.

I'm guessing a lineup with Lofton, Furcal and Pierre would be overkill

pierre would give them depth. lofton's old. however, after reading some more comments, it may have been hairston and they were asking for cruz or saenz.

I wonder if they would go for Maddux, choice of Pierre or Walker, and Williamson for Billingsley deal.

i think they would laugh hendry off the phone.

It's Ned Colletti, not Billy Beane. There's a difference.

I think most agree that if the Cubs deal Maddux to the Dodgers, the Cubs should reasonably expect to get Either/Navarro/Kemp/Aybar/Delwon Young, longshot but Billingsley back in the deal. Who knows, depending on how well Maddux, the Cubs could get two of those youngsters.

With that said....what could the Cubs reasonably ask for and possibly get for the rest of the NL West, exclude Colorado (seeing as I don't think Maddux will want to go to Colorado).

I'd like to get Carlos Gonzalez from the Diamondbacks. He's further away than some of the other prospects, but he's going to be a hellova outfielder.

I know they have Quentin and Upton schedule for their future OF, but why would they trade a young, quite possibly very good OF prospect, for a pitching like Maddux, who is doing his best Glendon Rusch impersonation? We be luck to get Jeff Devanon for Maddux.

Maddux has a NTC, he has said before there is no way, no how he will go to the AL for any amt of $$. Can't say I blame him. Arizona and the three NL California teams are the only ones Maddux would conceivably consider in a trade, along with (I'm guessing) a return to the ATL.

Maddux doesn't have a NTC. Tribune

"Whatever," Maddux said. "There's nothing I can do about [a trade]. I don't have a no-trade clause."

No more Maddux. Wood's probably gone after September.

Prior's health is becoming more & more of a concern.

Wow.

This starting rotation has gone from incredible to incredibly bad so quick. It's amazing. '07 could see the arrival of one of the worst Cub rotations we've ever seen. What if Zambrano hits the DL?

Wow. If we lose Wood and Maddux, I guess we wont be spending any of that 19 Mill saves on FA pitchers, eh? Drama.

The only non-Cub out there who has done anything noteworthy in his career is Zito.

It wouldnt' be so bad if we had a smart manager and a decent pitching coach. However, as is I'd expect that rotation with Roth to average no less than 5 BB/9.

I'd also rather see Marmol than Glendon out there. Looks as if the Cubs overpaid dearly for an overperforming veteran (yet again). Might as well bite the bullet and relegate him to long relief next year.
