all right...now that we've got the lawn mowed, a left-handed bp pitcher, warm weather, as well as the imminent return of pagan, the cubs should be ready to turn this thing around.

"You saw in Florida how much quicker that surface was. It really helped the speed guys."

how'd the cubs do in florida, again?

"It was a secret," Baker said. "I didn't tell the pitchers. I didn't tell nobody—just Juan Pierre."

Pierre declined to talk about it, saying Baker asked him to keep it a secret.

apparently he only told pierre and the tribune.

Now Pierre can be thrown out by the second baseman even quicker.

I'm sure the pitchers are ecstatic, too.

Gee, thats just so stupid I don't know what to say. If this season hadn't already devistated me so, I might have a little more outrage for the idiocy displayed here.

Didn't Hendry say something like we would need new sod to cut the grass or it would die if it was too low just a couple days ago?

That crafty management.

WTF? You don't think it might have been a good idea to tell your pitchers? Or maybe your infielders?

"We have more speed on the infield now, guys who use their legs like Juan [Pierre] and Freddie Bynum and Tony [Womack]. You saw in Florida how much quicker that surface was. It really helped the speed guys."

Just a quick recap of how much it really helped the speed guys in Florida. Dusty must have been watching a different game then me. Note: Since speedy Womack wasn't on the team, I included speedy Ronny Cedeno in this recap figuring the quicker surface would have probably helped him as well.

Game 1: 9-1 Loss

Possible Quick Surface Help: 1 Single to center by Pierre

Pierre:

AB1 - Bunt out to the catcher (0-1)

AB2 - Popped out to the shortstop (0-2)

AB3 - Doubled to deep right (1-3)

AB4 - Singled to center (2-4)

Cedeno:

AB1 - Grounded out to second (0-1)

AB2 - Popped out to first (0-2)

AB3 - Grounded out to second (0-3)

AB4 - Struckout (0-4)

Bynum:

AB1 - Grounded out to second (0-1)

AB2 - HBP (0-1)

Game 2: 5-4 Loss

Possible Quick Surface Help: 1 Single to Center by Cedeno

Pierre:

AB1 - Grounded out to pitcher (0-1)

AB2 - Grounded out to pitcher (0-2)

AB3 - Grounded out to shortstop (0-3)

AB4 - Struckout (0-4)

Cedeno:

AB1 - Singled to center (1-1)

AB2 - Struckout (1-2)

AB3 - Grounded out to shortstop (1-3)

Bynum:

AB1 - Struckout (0-1)

Game 3: 9-3 Loss

Possible Quick Surface Help: None

Pierre:

AB1 - Walk (0-0)

AB2 - Flied out to center (0-1)

AB3 - Grounded out to second (0-2)

AB4 - Strikeout (0-3)

AB5 - Grounded out to second (0-4)

Cedeno:

AB1 - Strikeout (0-1)

AB2 - Flied out to right (0-2)

AB3 - Strikeout (0-3)

AB4 - Flied out to left (0-4)

Bynum:

AB1 - Grounded out to second (0-1)

Conclusion: Another case of Dusty making things up to take the blame off of him and his players. It's the grass not his terrible hitting team.

it should be noted that Juan Pierre leads mlb in infield hits with 18. his closest competitor has 14. lets get astroturf!

heck, let's just pull up all the grass and put in cement...and shorten the bases to 70 feet...and have there only be three bases instead of four. the possibilities are endless.

Left-handed batting practice pitcher, shorter grass...print up those play-off tickets!

The comedy just never ends with this team. You couldn't make this stuff up even if you tried.

the cubs should bring the fences in closer to help their #1 power hitter

Of course they wouldn't tell their pitchers......shhh it's a "secret"
