Duh.

I live in NY, and I've seen the power of the people when it came to getting Knicks coaches fired. How do we speed this process up with Baker? I'm seriously ready to call the Cubs and start yelling at whomever picks up the phone. Or even going down the list and trying to talk to any of these people:

Jim Hendry Vice President/General Manager

Scott Nelson Director, Baseball Operations

Billy Williams Special Assistant to the President

Randy Bush Special Assistant to the General Manager

Keith Champion Special Assistant to the General Manager

Gary Hughes Special Assistant to the General Manager

Ken Kravec Special Assistant to the General Manager

Ed Lynch Special Assistant to the General Manager

Chuck Wasserstrom Manager, Baseball Information

Brad Kelley Major League Advance Scout

Jimmy Bank Traveling Secretary

Arlene Gill Executive Assistant to President and General Manager

Who's with me? This has got to stop.

Actually, over the next two months I hope the Cubs do nothing.

There are no moves Jim Hendry can make right now that would improve the club so much as to make it a contender. And that includes firing Dusty. I think the last thing this ballclub needs is an interim manager who suddenly gets the team to play .500 baseball and is rewarded with the position full-time.

I think the Cubs should take the rest of the season to assess the health of Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Wade Miller. See if Matt Murton can develop some power. See if there are any takers fo Jacque Jones, even though the Cubs will have to eat a substantial portion of his contract (I know he's hitting well and is not the problem, but I'm not comfortable watching him in a Cubs uniform through 2008). Own up to the mistake of the two year contract to Neifi Perez and just release the guy.

Basically, play 2006 with an eye on 2007. Commonly known around here as "wait 'til next year."

Not a bad approach at least from the personnel perspective. Find out who can help you win in 2007 and who can't. Weed 'em out.

fire bank and promote costanza.

Love it. Or trade Hendry for a bucket of KFC.

Hendry would eat the bucket of KFC before it got to Chicago, so bad idea. Maybe tofu?
