Well, Jack looks like he was constructed from toothpicks. When he looks around, everybody probably looks roided up.

How many innings would Prior need to put in and when, in order to get his stock up such that he garners a fat contract with the Padres or Dodgers (or, perhaps the Angels) when the Cubs no longer have rights to him?

I have this sneaking suspicion that in a couple of years, he will leave the Cubs behind just like with Vandy in college.

But then again...who is going to throw AJ Burnett money at Prior...when he is still on the DL?

Overuse EARLY ON is a big deal. I've seen it with my son. He was 12 and threw six innings in a tough game, lots of pitches, on a 90 degree day. He tells the coach he can't throw any more... he can't even see the catcher. The coac tells him he has to ... gets down on his knees. It's sickening... total lost of perspective, and I bet with guys like Prior and Wood it started WAY before high school. High school just pushed it over the edge. Don't get me started.

That's what I'm saying - timing is everything. I grant that I am paranoid, but I do wonder whether Mark and his dad are trying to calculate the right time to get back in the game and stay there. Heck, I'm not sure if I were Prior, given the freak accidents and bad turns I'd had on this team, if I'd want to give my right arm for these chumps either.

But as a fan the thought of that kind of calculation ticks me off to no end.

I don't exactly recall Prior "flipping out" over the matter.

Someone probably would. AJ Burnett has just as much an injury history as Prior, if not moreso.

he did react directly and kind of snapped at the reporter if I remember correctly. Then again, I would have too.

My recollection is that Prior laughed off Blackjack's suspicions - that was early last year if memory serves.

Edit: It was April 2004:

Cubs | Prior Responds

Thu, 1 Apr 2004 11:04:39 -0800

Updating an earlier story, Cubs.MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports Chicago Cubs SP Mark Prior responded to the comments made by former MLB SP Jack McDowell about steroids. "Do I look like I'm on steroids? That's the first I heard. Was he serious? I guess the best thing I can say is obviously I'm not; I don't know why he would say that. I never met the guy, I don't know the guy," Prior said. "I don't know if he's got a beef with me because I went to (USC) and he went to Stanford. That's about the worst thing I've ever heard. It doesn't even make any sense."

There's a difference between there not being anything structurally wrong and there not being anything physically wrong. The MRI showed that there was something wrong.

Then Rotschild doesn't even know his own players. He said nothing was wrong with him structurally or physically.

Perhaps he meant right now or that there isn't a reason they know of why this came up, but there was still something wrong.

Yeah, I hate USC a lot.

I don't think they feed their players steroids, though.
