Jose Lima designated for assignment today

0-3 with a 8.79 ERA. Ouch.

Unfortunately, Cubs fans probably couldn't get lucky enough for Hendry to do this to Rusch (1-5, 7.31 ERA).

He's got to be better than Rusch.

Well...I'm not sure. They're both horrible.

Lima 2006: 0-3, 14.1 IP, 14 ER, 8.79 ERA, 1.81 WHIP

Rusch 2006: 1-5, 32 IP, 26 ER, 7.31 ERA, 1.56 WHIP

This following a year in which Lima was 5-16 with a 6.99 ERA.

I've never understood why some teams pick up certain players. Someone posted an amazing stat about Rusch that I don't clearly remember, but his winning percentage (sub 40% if I remember) is among the lowest in MLB history for how many innings he's pitched in his career. Basically he's sucked for a while, but people just keep giving him jobs.

Cleary, pitching with your left hand is mystical and elusive art. Rusch is like a beautiful endangered animal...a southpaw manatee, if you will. Edited by Sammy Sofa

If anybody would take a chance on Lima, it should be in July. He is 26-13 since 1987. That is usually an indicator that he does better in hot weather. He is also 4-1 lifetime against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, so I think he has more upside than Rusch. :D The Mets should have tried him against the Cubs as he has the perfect MO to beat them!
