I still don't quite understand why the Cubs feel they need to get rid of this guy. He's been at the center of the offense the last 2 wins. Am Ram is just an out of shape 3rd baseman that was rewarded with a fat contract (Fat RAM?) Everyone else is fumbling around. Jacque Jones is even coming out of his slump. I hope the CUbs are not banking on the power of Bynum?

With Woods on tap today, the Cubs pitching seems to have settled down. Marshall is 3-1, which I some how overlooked. Zambo seems to have recovered from the Worlds; Maddux only had one really bad game. That's a pretty good 4 starters if they give quality starts. Just keep Fat Glendon away and in the pen.

The Cubs look for the sweep today, yes vs. a bad team and all, but it's a good start and any, ANY momentum going into the Sox series is welcome.

Fall down 8 stands up 9 indeed. The thread (and my hopes and faith?) looks prophetic now.

Two big games by Walker, indeed. Also, Jones has looked better at the plate the last few games. Ramirez really needs to come around for this offense to really do anything though.

Though I still have little faith in your earlier predictions, Scott, but I hope you are right.

I think I"ll hold off calling anything "prophetic" until we've beaten a team a little tougher than the Nats.

Absolutely I agree. But The Cubs needed to win these games or the towel would have hit the canvas. Glad to see the team play baseball. Baby Steps people Baby Steps.

They lost 14 of 16, and 4 straight when you wrote that line. They've now just won 2. I would wait until they win 15 of 17 before talking yourself up as a prophet.

They still have people getting doubled off of the bases and I wouldn't say they are playing great baseball. They have gotten some good pitching and won two games in a row, but if guys (Jacque Jones... cough, cough) keep making horrendous base running gaffes, missing cut off men, etc... this little winning streak will be short lived and when they start playing good teams we will see a lot more 5 and 6 game losing streaks.

Just to add to that, if they keep sac bunting three or four times a game they're not going to be going on many long winning streaks.

The Cubs are just lucky they are playing a more inept team.

Goony,

In reading the thread in which I am referring to. I said the Cubs should sweep the Nats and gain good momentum going in to the Cross town series. That's all. Never said they'd win 15 and 17 games in a row. After all I am realistic.

I am loving these shutout wins, but if these Cubs manage to take more than 1 and score more than 5 runs total against the Sox, I'll be shocked.

Sweep the Nat's is the first order of business. Then we'll see about the Sox. I hope the Cubs come out and hit in the mouth in the first game and win, but we'll see what happens today with Wood. If Wood does decent it could help the momentum and confidence of this team. If Wood's arm falls off it could devistate the team.

is it possible to fall down eight times and stand up nine? wouldn't you already be up?

I think it means you stood up once in the first place, then after that, you fall down and stand up 8 times, bringing your total falls to 8 and total stands to 9.

But if that happens, you're just a klutz. If you were knocked down 8 times you are probably weak.

I would also like to point out that Juan Pierre is "in the middle of it" just as much as any other Cub, regarding these two wins.

True, but they were getting shut out by teams as bad as the Nats, so when you hit rock bottom the only way you can go is up.

that would be quite a feat, but not one they accomplished. The only teams as bad as the nats (marlins and pirates) have gotten crushed by the cubs.

May 2 vs Pirates, Cubs lose 8-0. Cubs lead series 3-2.

The Cubs took 2 of 3 from FLA by a combined score of 14-11.

I wouldn't say the Cubs crushed either team.

I was speaking in terms of scoring, not run differential. I missed that shutout, though

I don't think a lot rides on today's game or this series. The Cubs got two great pitching performances against bad teams. 9 runs in two games isn't something to start popping corks over, especially when you look at the era's of Zach Day and "whatever happened to" Livan Hernandez.

I don't think its a surprise to anyone that when the french-imposters in the outfield hit well the Cubs win...but needing them to hit well explains why the team is battling the Bucs for last place.

Good point Dude. Looks like the clouds are breaking and the sunlight is beginning to come through.

How 'bout a beverage?

Why don't we wait until we play a real team before getting our pants all wet over a couple wins against the freaking Nationals.

Seconded

Do we have to beat the real team, or does merely playing them warrant getting wet pants over beating the Nats?
