Peoria leads 6-1 going into the bottom of the 6th. Blackford has yet to strike out or walk a batter, but has also scattered eight hits.

Mark Reed also hit his second HR of the year. Looks like the light's coming on for him at the plate. :D

Sorry, no pitching probables because I had to wake up early to go to jury duty in Downtown LA.

From my memory, I believe it's:

WT: LHP JR Mathes

Daytona: RHP Grant Johnson

Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford

From John Manuel's ESPN Chat:

Mark (RI): John...what has happened to Mark Pawelek....looks like he has yet to pitch this season...did I miss something?

SportsNation John Manuel: (2:36 PM ET ) From what I understand, he wasn't in top shape in spring training and wasn't able to make a full-season roster. It's really not that big of a deal; I think it makes sense to take it slow with high school pitchers. He'll probably start in the short-season Northwest League in June.

There's a separate thread, but some roster moves went down today:

Hoffpauir and Montanez to AAA

Sing and Greenberg to West Tennessee

Now this is a promotion!

(Jackson, TN) May 17th - The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx are pleased to announce that the "Care Bears" will be making an appearance at Pringles Park on Friday, May 19th as part of their national tour. Fans familiar with the "Care Bears" from the cartoons on television will now have a chance to see them live and in person. Eight cheerful "Care Bears" will be canvassing the stadium before and during the Diamond Jaxx game.

Prior to the game's 7:05pm start, the "Care Bears" will be meeting and greeting Jaxx fans on the main concourse of Pringles Park. The "Care Bears" will also be featured during some of the between-inning games.

About 20 years too late for me, but hopefully it'll help attendance.

Daytona up 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th. Johnson off to a good start only allowing 2 hits, but 3 walks through 4. Jake Fox drove in his 30th run of the season in the 1st.

Daytona wins 11-3. Fox was 2/4 with 3 RBI's and a walk. Olin Wick was also 2/4 with 3 RBI's and a walk. Every Daytona starter got a hit except Issmael Salas, but he walked 2 times and scored a run.

Johnson had one of his best outings of the year as he only gave up 3 hits, 1 run, 5 BB's and 4 K's in 6 IP. He improves to 4-4 on the season. Tim Layden and Michael Phelps pitched the final 3 innings...Layden allowed 2 runs, but both were unearned.

Jaxx are down 8-0 in the 9th. Patterson, Reyes, and Cates each have one hit apiece. That has been all of the offense for the Jaxx tonight :(

How do you like seeing a catcher with a good average (.365) who's got good power (2 HR in the past 2 games) and can steal a base....(5 on the year)?? Personally, I love it. This kid has got some talent.

Eric Patterson the only real good night for West Tenn, as they got 4-hit by Thompson and Abraham for Mobile. E-Pat with 2 doubles, going 2-4. Reyes and Cates each threw in a single. Sing was 0-3 with a BB, 3 K. Ouch.

Todd Blackford isn't exactly high on anyone's prospect radar at the moment, but the kid is 6'4", 215 lbs and just 20 years old and he threw 16 ground ball outs tonight. He is the same size as Donald Veal and almost a year younger. His ERA and other numbers are rather high at the moment, 5.36, but he's got time...

Anyone have any scouting information on this guy?

Acquired from the Braves in the Todd Hollandsworth deal last season, along with Angelo Burrows. Low 90s fastball, decent change, and a slider that needs to be tightened up. Drafted in the 13th round of the 2004 draft out of an Indiana HS. There isn't a whole lot of info on him out of that draft in terms of projection, makeup, or anything else along those lines.

A low 90s fastball, decent change and a slider that needs work. Thanks.

I remembered that we got him in that trade, but I had never heard a breakdown of his stuff.

At 20 years old, he should have a decent shot of at least adding a few mph to that fastball considering he is 6'4". Though 215 lbs. is pretty well filled out.

Thanks again, O_O. Not just for the scouting report on Blackford, but for all of the daily reports and box score links. I visit it everyday.

Question: What is Pawelek doing right now? I just looked, and Boise's season doesnt start for another month. Why isnt he in Peoria? This is so pissing me off. Is he is Mesa working out.

In Mesa they're playing games right now, they just aren't reported. So he's not just working out, he's also pitching on a regular basis.

Are these games not reported because press are not allowed to attend? Are the games public? You would think in these times someone could affoard to send a reporter there from time to time to report on some of the prospects that are there.

What I think Tim meant by these games aren't "reported" is that they aren't official games and thus they aren't recorded.

Last season, there was talk of getting rid of the rookie leagues altogether. There is no rookie league schedule listed on cubs.com while there is a Boise schedule so it looks like there will be no rookie league this season, but I'm not sure what they decided to do. If anyone has any info on that, it would be appreciated.
