Texas is 6th in hitting and 14th in pitching. They could use a cf and pierre could use a change of scenery. Cubs could give them Williams or Hill, as a 5th starter.

Nevin hits for power, which the Cubs desperately need, and plays 1b and can play rf. Also, he's quite good against lefties and lefties have killed Chicago this year.

I am just trying to understand how it can be said that Pierre needs a change of scenery. He has only been playing in a cubs uniform for 31 games. I'd wait til the all star break before we look to move Pierre. I like the idea for Nevin, but I definatly think we need to give Pierre a shot.

The Cubs need to gain more slugging. They have enough single's hitters. They'd gain over 200 points in ops, and Cedeno looks like he can be an adequate leadoff man. If Cedeno was struggling, I'd be pretty hesitant to deal off Pierre, but the Cubs need a shake up and a lot more power.

Nevin just doesn't hit anymore, and he was never an upper-echelon player to begin with...

They don't need to gain 200 points of OPS out of their CF. If the team wants to upgrade OPS production, you do it in RF or SS.

It doesn't matter where the OPS gains are, they need them. CF, RF, 2B are all prime candidates right now.

200 more points of OPS would put the position at .775, which is average to slightly below average so far this year.

Ideally, that's where they should get it from, but you gotta take what you can get. Abreu & Tejada might not even be available come July either.

Alright, package Pierre, Rusch & JWilliams for Nevin & a filler. Pretty much a wash in payroll, and TX could use Rusch.

Call up Pie and start Nevin @ 1b. See how it goes from there. Can always use Nevin in a platoon & off the bench. His number are good against lefties.

While I'm not completely opposed to Nevin, I'm not a big fan of bringing in someone who can only play 1b. Nevin is horrible anywhere else defensively. What good is a guy who can only pinch hit once the regular is back to play everyday?

I know you probably follow the Padres a lot closer than me. (I follow the Angels pretty close.) I saw on ESPN that Nevin's played some rf in the last few years. Has his defense just become horrible? I guess they could always put Murton in RF and hide Nevin in LF versue lefties.

He hasn't played in the OF since 2003, and he was pretty wretched out there.

So what you're saying is he'll fit right in?

If you thought Jason Dubois was bad in LF, multiply how bad he was x 2 to get Phil Nevin's outfield defense. The Padres put Klesko back in the outfield so that they could put Nevin at 1st, and Klesko looks a lot like Adam Dunn defensively in the outfield. In Klesko's defense, he's not a bad 1b, but if Klesko is at 1st, where did they put Nevin?
