Just decided to see how well the Cubs are comparing to the rest of baseball in key offensive statistics.

20th in BA

24th in HR

26th in 2B

26th in H

23rd in R

26th in TB

25th in SLG

10th in SB

28th in walks (leader, CIN, has almost twice as much as the Cubs!!)

4th in LEAST K's

5th in MOST DPs

23rd in OBP (with the A's!?)

30th IN LEAST LOB

Obviously, the statistics are showing that we are having the team that Hendry wanted. Lots of SB, a lot less K's, not much emphasis on OBP and walking.

Obviously, missing Lee skews some of these numbers, but its a bit distressing to figure that the reason the Cubs are staying afloat offensively is because they are driving home a majority of their runners (minus those not out from DPs), a trend that is likely not to continue. Anyone else see anything interesting in these numbers?

can't have runners if no one gets on.

Small ball, yeah!

Which is a big reason why it's OK to strikeout sometimes.

We don't have a very good offense.

Actually I thought they had a pretty high AVG w/ Runners in scoring position... can anyone verify?

.299/.380/.514 for a .894 OPS, third only to the Yankees and White Sox.

Not a surprise with Lee & ARam missing so many games.

This shows that we're soon gonna have an even LARGER drop off in our run production, as our BA with runners in scoring position will slowly move to the median....very depressing.

We're gonna need a monumental effort from Walker, Ramirez, Murton and Cedeno to weather this storm. We all know what we are gonna get out of Jones and Pierre which is....not much.

And please goshdarnit, stop bunting so much Dusty, especially with some of our better hitters. You are costing us runs.

The only good thing seems to be that we are capitalizing on our opportunities. Hopefully when Lee comes back he can help out with the problem. The key right now is to do enough to not fall to far out of first place. We aren't going to have a second half like Houston did last year or Oakland has in years past so we have to stay close.
