I'd just like to point out that about this time last year when he sucked and the yanks were looking for almost anyone to take him (that or send him down) I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to take a flyer on him...he would be nice to have right now.

 

(In no way to I take credit for thinking he'd do this...have you seen his #s over the last year?)

Giambi is a ballplayer. He has great plate discipline and a lightning quick bat. Steriods or not, he can hit.

I wouldn't want Jason on the Cubs...because his season will never again go unquestion. You have to constantly put up :-s about his season. I want players who unquestionably clean, not players who you have doubts about.

Maybe "unqeustionable clean" maybe TOO HIGH of a standard in today's baseball, but I still wouldn't take Giambi, who not only used steroids, but LIED about taking steroids. No thank you. A cheat is one thing, but a cheat and a LIAR, no way. Call it the Sammyitis.

He didn't lie about taking steroids, did he? He came clean to the grand jury, but I don't remember any accusations that he denied before that.

 

If you're talking about his nondenial denial at the beginning of last season, he was just doing all that was asked of him legally. That testimony was considered sealed and he didn't have to comment on it.

He didn't lie. He never said, "I never took steroids."

 

I'm not saying that his response of "I've made mistakes" was full admission, he never denied using steroids. The fact remains: his testimony, as was all testimony in the grand jury phase, was sealed. He didn't have to admit to anything.

 

I think he paid more than his fair share with all the health problems he had the past couple of years and will continue to pay with future medical problems he's sure to have as a result of the steroids. You reap what you sow, as the saying goes.

Interesting. In any other employment situation "truthiness" would be a big issue. Sports is so removed from reality its frightening.

The fact that you are frightened by sport's distance from reality is frightening...hell, OJ killed a couple people and got away from it. Yeah Giambi took the cream and the clear and stuff, but frankly, he's handled it better than anyone else. People make mistakes, not accidents, conscious mistakes. The fact is, is that Giambi is a very good player due to his eyes, he becomes a great player due to his power. You can never make an artificial excuse for his insane Williams-esque pitch selection.
