Supposedly the last callis mock is supposed to go up "this evening" but its 11 EST and no such thing.

The year Pawelek was drafted, Callis' mock draft went up around 6-7 am PDT on draft day (that's about when I finished my paper after pulling an all-nighter). It was before the draft, but just a few hours before. He did get something like the first 19 picks right (got the Cubs pick wrong).

how do I de-notify me when a reply is posted? i must have accidentally hit something

If you're not a Premium member, then just click on the Profile link at the very top of the page. Scroll down and you should see an option to Notify when someone replies. If you are a Premium member, then it's a little more complicated.

Underneath the last post in the thread, there's a link that says "Stop watching this topic". Alternatively, reply to this post and uncheck the "Notify me when a reply is posted" option.

So who do people want for the Cubs sandwich pick? I have a good sense of all the candidates for the 3 spot, but if somebody can give me a rundown on a few good people possibly available at 48 it would help in watching the draft tomorrow.

I hate waiting for their final mock draft. They're generally very accurate but they take forever to post it and it loses a bit of its appeal when it comes up day-of. Plus I'll be up much later than I should be waiting for it when I have to wake up at 6 am.

exactly. i have be at work at 7 AM CST tomorrow and get off at noon for the draft, but if I check at 6:30 AM and find out, what's so great when I can just find out for real in a couple of hours.

Phil Rogers claims the Cubs are considering Vitters, Parker and...Moustakas:

On the eve of the draft, it wasn't clear which way the Cubs would go. Indiana gas man Jarrod Parker—he of the unnatural fastball—and Josh Vitters, like Moustakas a high school infielder from California, were being heavily discussed, according to sources.

Two dumb lines from that article:

Neither of these guys is the second coming of Luis Montanez, who now is a Triple-A outfielder for the Orioles

yeah... and back then, nobody thought Luis Montantez was the second coming of, oh I dunno, Chris Burke?

Catchers always come at a premium, and Wieters might be the best catcher in the draft since Minnesota landed Joe Mauer ahead of Mark Prior in 2001. He's a switch-hitter with power and is considered above average as a receiver and thrower.

Hey, maybe he's the next Ben Davis! An overly inflated opinion is always a risk evaluating players.

Yeah, Ben Davis, great comparison. Never mind that Ben Davis was drafted straight out of high school, or that his plate discipline was miles behind Wieters. I'd say that Wieters' three seasons with an OPS over 1.000 would argue against an overly inflated opinion. It's not like he's a high school kid who's gotten by on word of mouth; he's played 150 games for a major D-I program. But Ben Davis was a catcher and was an early-round bust, so let's compare the two.

It's par for the course with Phil Rogers.

All I really cared about was that it appears the Cubs top three guys are Moustakas, Parker and Vitters.

if we don't pick wieters, and Price is gone, I want Moustakas. After that I don't really give a crap... we won't take Porcello, Parker will blow out his arm if we draft him, and Vitters will be a bust.

Sun-Times claims the Cubs have their eyes on four guys: LHP David Price, 3B Josh Vitters, 3B Beau Mills (:wtf:) and RHP Rick Porcello. Given the omission of Parker, I don't know how reliable they are.

Kevin Goldstein (BP) also has the Cubs taking Jarrod Parker, just like Jim Callis.

Parker seems real obvious to me now, especially since it looks like Vitters will be gone (unlike the last two years when there was no obvious choice - last year we didn't know which way the Cubs were going and in 05 we didn't know if it would be Hochevar or Pawelek).

If the HS thing makes Ben Davis a poor comp, then wouldn't it also make Joe Mauer a poor comp too?

I dodn't remember what exactly people thought of him, but I do remember a very negative vibe about him. Everybody thought it was a low risk low reward type pick. Nobody was all that high on him.
