You guys are funny.

Here's the score for everyone who is scoring at home but is unable to look at anything unbiased:

The Cubs and Cardinals are both guilty of throwing at each other's batters. Both managers pull this crap with opposing pitchers. Last year I thought Dusty was going to charge the mound on Carp. Insinuating that Tony promotes steroid use among his players is ludicrous. Acting like this issue between Tony and Maddux is a big deal is dumb. It's not. It's a result of a bunch of you people hating Tony. Nothing more.

Here is the score: Tony is a dick.

Maddux was making the Cardinal hitters look useless. So what does he do? He resorts to the lowest sophomoric tactics one can think of. Then the other dick (Edmonds) takes a page from Tony's book and does it again.

I would be embarrased if I were a Cardinal fan. Just as I was as Cubs fan when Zambrano plunked Edmonds twice[/code]

So? That's not my point. My point is that it happens all over baseball and people are acting like it is exclusive to LaRussa and the Cardinals. This kind of stuff has been going on in baseball for 100+ years. It's a non issue. Get over it. Maddux didn't get his feelings hurt, just some of you apparently.

No Maddux just laughed at their patheticness.

Exactly. Maddux knew what they were doing. He knew they couldn't stop him on the field so they were trying the gamesmanship. I just don't think it is such a travesty like some of you do. I don't think it is bad sportsmanship, I don't think it is a "dick" thing to do, and I'm not just saying this because I'm a Cardinals fan. I think it's part of the game.

I think it's insulting that he did it to GREG [expletive] MADDUX. Yeah maybe it's a part of the game if he did it to a young pitcher or someone with a slow fuse like Big Z. But there is nothing to gain from trying to raddle Maddux. All it does is delay the game, and maybe put some doubt in peoples minds that just heard about it the next day and all that was said was that Larussa thought that maybe Maddux was doctoring the ball. I feel proud that Maddux is able to still get the job done so well that hall of fame managers and Cy Young candidate fellow pitchers accuse him of cheating because he's still so good.

I don't believe it affected Maddux at all. I'd also agree with it being part of the game. But it's a pathetic and embarassing part of the game. I would think most Cards fans would be embarassed by such childish behavior.

It may be commonplace to Cardinals fans, but for Cubs fans these sorts of issues only seem to come up a few times a year. Nearly every one of those instances involves Tony Larussa and the Cardinals. That's the point. Cardinals fans are used to it b/c that is how Tony plays. If it really were commonplace, Cubs fans would be much more used to it. As it stands, these issues will probably fall by the wayside until another Cards series.

more crap from the cardinals:

"It's tough if the umpire is giving him what he wants,'' Miles said. "He knows how to run with it better than anybody else.''

maybe the guy that made 2 errors, 1 costly, should just shut up.

What was the story with either two consecutive players, or LaRussa asking to have the ball checked a couple of times? That was a little ridiculous.

I'm wondering if the ball looks like its covered in grease when you can't do anything to Maddux.

If Tony was so worried about the integrity of the game he wouldn't have let Kline and Tavares put pinetar on the bill of their caps. Talk about ridiulous.

Nor would he have flat out lied about McGwire and performance echancing drugs...

LOL, I saw that too and I agree that Miles should be quite because his errors were costly. Of the 7 runs Marquis surrendered, only 4 were earned. Considering the final score was 7-3 the Cubs most likely would have won anyway.

This thread is funny to me.

Cubs fan: Larussa is a douche bag.

Cards fan: No he isn't, it's gamesmenship.

Is this news worthy? I mean, to rack up four (premium) pages? News flash: Cubs fans don't like Larussa; Cards fans do. Story at 11.

Dusty...Bonds...BALCO...

Sosa's corked bat...

Tavarez's hat...

I agree with the post above (soapy). This is really isn't a big deal. Neither side is "innocent" and this is the kind of crap that takes place on the field. Each team trying to get the edge. They both want to win.

You wont find to many people on these boards defending Baker, most of us hate the guy and would love to see him run out of town as quickly as possible. Thats the difference between StLouis fans and Chicago fans, at least we can identify stupidity.

LOL - know many cards fans?

TLR is not that beloved either. Some fans have even paid to fly a banner of the stadium calling for TLR to be fired and ran ads in the newspaper.

Oh? lol

I dont know any Cards fans, it just seemed like alot of people were rushing to defend his checking the ball. By the way in the 20 years Ive been watching baseball Ive only seen a manager (or anyone else for that matter) ask to check the ball a handful of times. It might be commonplace in Cardinal land but its rare most everywhere else.

I wasn't attempting to implicate Baker was telling the truth when he denied knowledge of Bonds and BALCO. Of course, he was lying thru his teeth. If Baker approached Bonds could you imagine such a converstation?

Baker: Huh, Mr. Bonds, there some bad stuff in those BALCO products. Bad stuff Dude...

Bonds: Go @#%** yourself!

Baker: Huh OK, I'm sorry Mr. Bonds, please forgive me.

this is the type of thing I was referring to earlier. the Cards get the benefit on several calls during the first two games of the series (see inside and low pitches by Mulder; high pitches by Ponson; Rusch 3-2 to JRod when compared to pitches to Blanco and Murton in the half inning before and after respectively), then complain about Maddux's strikezone when I didn't see a single pitch called a strike that should not have been (granted I didn't see the whole game).

the MO is this...the majority things go their way, then they complain and play the victim. they are the republicans of baseball.

EVERY time Pujols hits a HR, someone oughta ask the ump to check the bat...

fixed. he is, afterall, 37 yrs old

LOL, he's one of the "oldest" looking 25 year olds I've ever seen. I'm guessing that when he was 1 he looked like 13 year old.
