Sorry to start another D. Lee thread, but the injury thread kind of went down hill about 30 pages in. I wanted some people's feedback: Anyone remember the Penguin's wrist injuries when he was with the Cubs. It seems like he was never the same after that.

Is there a danger of that happening to D. Lee?

You might want to check out the Will Carroll thread on this page and click the link to BP to get his opinion on it.

I don't know. :? A lot of people blamed Nomar's wrist injury for his subsequent struggles ... but it seems to me that his trouble staying injury-free was more to blame.

there's been alot of chitty chat since the collission about how wrist injuries can be complicated and linger on and on.

I think we need to distinguish between the wrist injuries those discussions seemed to be about and Lee's wrist injury. in a way, we are fortunate because this is "only" a bone break. those type of complications which everyone fears seem to occur more when there are problems with the ligaments.

I'm not a doctor, but this injury is not that complicated, and I'm confident Lee will come back from this just fine, it's only a matter of when.

I wonder too how badly it was broken. I'm no doctor, but if it were more of a crack then a massive break it would seem that would make a huge difference. Furcal isn't exactly a Mack truck. I would love to get a more detailed medical report.

Well, since they still let Barry Bonds wear body armor for a supposed injury from ions ago, I trust they'll now let Lee wear full on football gear when he takes the field from now on. :D

I like this idea. It may take away some range, but the prospect of a defensive end defending 1st base I like alot...

Cey came to Chicago as a fading vet and gave us a couple decent years. Then he was done. I love him for it, but he was pretty far past his prime.

I don't see a whole lot of similarity between him & Lee.

ken griffey jr. broke his wrist crashing into a wall back in '95 and he's fine...when he's not pulling his hamstring or messing up his knees. his swing is fine. i believe that lee will be a little cold when he comes back from the DL, but i would be surprised to see any lingering wrist problems for the remainder of his career.
