3.11 #1 in NL

That should only get better as Ohman will eventually return to normal, and what we were getting from Wuertz wasn't on par either.

Let's see if the rotation can catch up to the pen...

I think we still haven't given up a run from the 7th inning on.

I was thinking if it would be worth it to manually go through the boxes and see if that was true, so I decided to do it. Gave up a run in the 7th inning of game #1 :D

Is that the only one? Or did you stop there?

Wow. That is awesome. Hopefully we can keep it up.

I just finished

Game 1 - 1 run in the 7th (credited to Williamson)

Game 2 - 1 run in the 8th (credited to Williamson)

Game 3 - 1 run in the 7th (was Maddux though, so not sure if that counts)

Game 8 - 3 runs in the 8th (Ohman's meltdown, Howry was not good either)

so no runs given up by the pen from the seventh on while tied or with a lead, other than the one run in the 7th while up about 6.

I'll take it.

The Cub pen have been doing a very good job thus far. There may be a few mistakes here and there, but for the most part, the mistakes have been a minimum.

Dempster rules too. I've been very impressed with him.

Yeah, Hendry deserves some credit for pulling him off the scrap heap, and both Dusty and Hendry deserve some credit for converting him into a closer.

I wouldn't give any credit to Dusty. I could be mistaken, but my impression is that Dempster as closer was Hendry's brainchild (he talked it up quite a bit during the offseason between 04 and 05). Despite Hendry saying over and over that Dempster has the "stuff and mentality" to be a great closer, Dempster started last year as a starter. After what, 1.5 to 2 months, he was finally given a shot at the closer role. It always seemed to me that Dusty was bound and determined to give LaTroy another shot at the closer role, and when it became painfully obvious that it wasn't going to work, Dusty finally conceeded (or Hendry forced the issue with him) to put Dempster in the role. I think Hendry wanted it all last year, but Dusty fought him on it.

This is one very formidable bullpen crew !! It goes a long way to explaining why the CUBS have outscored their opponents 20-6 in the 7-8-9th innings combined.
