i didn't realize i was going to be facing two starts from 1992 greg maddux this week...
Yep; that makes me a happy camper. :D

At least when you go down this week you can take some comfort knowing that it's due to an ageless wonder helping the Cubs win.

I think the rest of us are pretty happy that you are, too.

thank goodness you got batista in, eh?

Now this is more like it, an opening day of 80 points :D I really think my pitching staff has the potential to be excellent. The last half of last year was not a fluke for Conteras. Johnson and Glavine have been great. Duke and Millwood are back on track. Marquis was great last night. Chacin won't put up all-star numbers, but he has been solid.

On the other hand, I seem to have been bitten by the hamstring bug. Beltran has missed the last two days and KRod has said he felt some pain too. Hermida is now on the DL due to his hip problem. :x

right handed teams are going to have real problems with the cubs (not really related to last night). I think we've seen it with beating the cardinals and not beating the reds. bring wood and prior back and the cubs should continue to beat the cardinals. other than edmonds, they have no left handed threat.

can we confirm the len kaspur sighting?

I was thinking the same. The Dodgers were pretty LH though, and they had a tough time. Wish I coulda watched last night. Maddux is still one of the best pitchers to watch when he's on. Some of the best movement possibly ever.

If you're referring to the posts in the game thread, yes, that really was Len. He registered here late last season and posted once or twice then, as well as a couple of Q & A sessions. He is also registered on the cubs.com forum and has occasionally posted there, but there is also an imposter using a nearly identical screen name that most people wouldn't spot the difference if they don't look at the name very closely.

maddux is tough on lefties too though - and frankly, that lineup is not very good.

Yep, bad lineup without Kent and Nomar, not great with them. I'll be disappointed if LA gets more than 2 runs tonight. Lowe will be tough on the freeswinging Cubs though.

are the cubs that free-swinging? Hopefully Murton and Lee can run up some pitch counts at least. And Walker.

It should be stated that my opinion of my staff may be inflenced by the fact that the other staffs that I have had over the years have been so lousy.

Hmm...Both Glavine and Maddux are both pitching like they did in the past. I wonder if they have contacts with the same trainer. A little joke(I am not seriously implying something), but isn't it sad that we live in a day and age where when someone does something extraordinary drugs have to be considered. This whole situation must make for some interesting father and son conversations. :x

i've made a huge mistake (maybe more than one).

hanley ramirez is going off...and i considered throwing him out there at U this week. tejada may have to go on the block.

and oliver perez is off to a better start. though he just walked the pitcher w/ two outs and then allowed a double. boy, does that st louis lineup blow outside of rolen and pujols. i can't see why anyone would pitch to pujols right now.

Note to self - Never boast about your pitching staff. As soon as you do they fall apart. Randy Johnson was tagged by Toronto tonight. At least I can get some satisfaction from the fact that Rios was one of the players that lit RJ up.

it's talk like this that inspires my team to jack three homers and a couple of doubles w/in a half an hour span to make your 20+ point lead a distant memory.

lesson learned.

I'll talk Tejada with you.

I was very tempted to add to this comment that the Cubs would probably lose 2-1. I just had one of those feelings.

And yes, the Cubs are free-swingers. Lowe only had 100 pitches thru 7. Walker, Lee, and Murton will take pitches. But Pierre, Jones, Cedeno/Perez, and Ramirez will swing early and often.

There may be something to this. Today I keep my mouth shut, and I take back the lead.

i'm just glad dusty thought the sixth inning of a tie game vs the heart of the dodger order was a good time for aardsma to make his cub debut, preventing marshall from getting a QS.

by the way, just in case anyone was wondering, i mistakenly thought wang was on waivers, so i made what i thought was a claim on him. turns out he wasn't on waivers, so he went right into my lineup, taking loe's spot. juan said to just leave it since i'm not gaining any starts, and NCC has agreed to that. the only excuse i can give for my stupidity is the distraction of watching 14 cubs carted off the field w/ injuries.

I'm just confirming that I did agree to that. We discussed it by PM, and I didn't think he's gaining an unfair advantage (since you don't know in advance which pitcher will ultimately have the better start).

You are up a bit now, and I didn't even run my big mouth today. So much for that theory. :D

Me too. On the bright side, its not going to cost as much for me to keep DLee next season. Juan feel free to change my team name to The Red Cross.
