I was at the game so I didn't see what Izzy's velocity was like but from what I remember from having him on my fantasy team he seemed like he always started the season giving up runs and then became better after a couple of outings. It was also cold out there so that might have some effect on pitchers. In the past TLR has used Izzy on several occasions for 2 innings. That could also mean TLR doesn't have full confidence in his bullpen yet.

It looked to me like the velocity was there but he left the control in his hotel room.

BTW, some of the comments and posts this morning at Cards Talk are comical.

We got lucky according to this poster.

I also think it's funny that he sees the Cardinals as a 100 win team.

Yeah, I just had to get in on that "100 wins" comment. It won't happen.

...and the showers. Hope they were ice cold for Jimmy tonight!

Remind me again. What did he do that warranted needing a shower after last nights game?

He sprinted off the field when Skippy came in with Izzy.

Ive always liked Izzy's stuff in the pen. Last night was really bad, something aint right. TLR going for a 6 out save was puzzling too. The pitch to Barrett was awful. I know it was the 'inning of decision' but Looper must really be in trouble to not be in there. Thats what they got him for right. Lets face it, those 2 guys are their pen, if they cant pitch well, they are in world of hurt. Id be worried about Izzy, could be a false alarm though, we'll see.

Izzy really bleeped me off last night. Did you see the eye rolling and attitude he displayed? It was certainly a case of closer prima donna, I don't come in for the 8th inning, especially with a guy on base attitude.

And I was floored that Rolen wasn't charged an error Ramirez' grounder before the Jones HR.

Yes, I noticed it and in reading his quotes, I got the feeling he wasn't really happy about coming into that situation in the 8th. His comment about" I pitch when I'm told to but I hadn't pitched in a few days" sounds like he's looking for an excuse but not really willing to say anything directly...

Really having a tough time understanding fans scolding other fans for getting jacked up about this series.

1) The Cardinals amost always contend, or win the division.

2) Cardinals are Cubs' bitter rivals.

3) Three games in April count the same as three games in September.

4) Cubs have not swept the Cardinals in five years. Sad, I know, but consider that they just extricated that monkey from their collective back.

Making statements like "it's their World Series" or "it's only three games" is an effort to trivialize the impact of the games, and minimalize somene's enjoyment or minimalize their own disappointment.

Please, give it a rest. Some folks really get excited about these things, and that's fine for them.

All that being said, it's a long season, and I advise an even keeled approach to the games.

That didn't dampen my enjoyment of this series.

if it weren't for the bad call on a shot down the third base line by moises alou in 03 the cubs would have swept the cardinals 5 out of 5.

Yeah, Wainright looked very good. They should have left him in. He's a starter. Why does Larussa change relievers so much?

Because he is the Smartest Man in Baseball and wants everybody to remember that?

Because he wants to see if anyone else in the bullpen can get someone out ever?

Or because he likes to bring in a reliever to face one batter because they walk that batter with panache?

That call was balanced out by the call where Pujols dropped the ball on the exchange after catching a fly ball.

My Cardinal fan friends have said "it's only April" and when I brought up that the Cards bullpen is not good, he tried to argue with me. Eh, whatever.

So my Cards fan friend finally calls back. After he tried changing the subject several times, I say "you know how to tell that your pitching staff sucks? They gave up 2 hits to Jacque Jones."

After a brief pause, he conceded, "we're still in 1st place".

I give up...

Hmm... not sure where he got that information from. Try 5th place.

Chi Cubs 4 1

Cincinnati 4 2

Houston 4 2

St. Louis 3 3

Pittsburgh 1 6
