It's going to take me several years to turn this team around. I'm just going to tell the boys to relax, have fun and we'll try again next year.

No, it doesn't. Gotta make good trades for solid keepers.

Is Madsen starting for Philly this year? both those moves might be made in one swoop...

In general, BBB, keep a close eye on the waiver wire for new names being added. It is much tougher now with most prospects already being in the DB. In the past, most of the top prospects got added only when they hit the 40 man roster for their respective teams. But keep an eye out for Adam Miller on Cleveland, Brandon Erbe from Baltimore and some other potential high level guys that aren't in the system yet. You'll have a great shot at getting them through the waiver process.

It's also possible to pick up breakout major league players through waivers, too. A bunch of good pitchers went through waivers last year -- particularly early in the season. I know I cycled through guys like Chris Young and discarded them pretty quickly.

Chris Young did well for me. I traded him for Oswalt, who I traded for Berkman. Not a bad haul from a waiver wire pickup.

Yep, which is why the waiver wire can help build your team in a hurry.

John Patterson was a waiver wire pickup for me last year that really helped me out, too.

I was only joking about the fire sale. I am willing to do trades, however.

I'd like to leave Madson where he is until he has starting pitcher status, actually. Is that illegal?

Quickly? You gave him to me with D. Johnson for Oswalt since I couldn't keep him.

No, you made that trade with Raw.

That happened with me last year when I got Jhonny Peralta on waivers. His breakthrough helped me have a decent finish to the season after my 0-13 start. That in turn allowed me to trade Furcal for Conor Jackson and still have a solid shortstop.

Madson doesn't qualify as a minor leaguer. Once a player exceeds 200 at-bats (position player), 10 starts (starting pitcher), or 25 appearances (relief pitcher) in a single season, he no longer qualifies for you minor league roster unless he is sent to the minors by his major league team (I don't think rehabilitation assignments qualify). Madson exceeded that in both 2004 and 2005, and therefore wasn't qualified to be a minor leaguer even last year. It looks like that one slipped through the cracks.

Oh.. my bad. Jesus, I can't remember anything. I just hope the Mags for Wood trade works out for me. Who knows how it will turn out, but damn, I wish you hadn't gotten rid of Isringhausen before I accepted the original one.

I don't even remember the other offer. :)
