So, that happened.

Not a real surprise.

Someone post the full minor league stats for Lincoln Holdzkom and Zach McCormack, please.

Holdzkom, 24, has a 2.86 ERA in 110 career games in the Marlins organization. He has worked primarily out of the bullpen, striking out 194 in 160 1/3 innings. Opponents have hit .184 against him.

Sounds like we got someone with some potential. Anyone have more info on him?

Are the guys we got a little old for the leagues they have been in? I know Holdzkom is coming back from Tommy John surgery but should't he be in at least AA?

Well I think this team means business now!

Todd Wellemeyer was traded to Florida today for two minor leaguers.

I guess this means we're not going to keep the garbage around. Looks like this team really wants to win.

I'm not quite sure how trading Wellemeyer to the Marlins is indicative of the team's desire to win.

But it's a good thing they won't be tempted to keep him around just based ono his options status. I hate when teams make personel decisions based on non-baseball factors.

Todd has some interesting stuff, but he walks far too many, and gets rocked from time to time. Good luck to him. Hopefully one of these guys can turn into a reliever down the road.

With Florida trading for so many prospects, I could actually see them start trading some of these guys for players like Wellemeyer (minimum wage guys with major league experience).

Here's Holdzkom's minor league numbers.

He dominated through the system until he hit a bump at Jupiter last season.

He only pitched nine innings there. He also missed the entire 2004 season due toi TJS. He is a little old to never have pitched above class A, but his surgery may have something to do with that.

He does make a decent looking relief prospect and we got him for someone we were likely going to cut loose anyway.

I said that because this team's cutting the obvious trash right out the gate, and not doing stupid things like keep someone around because of running out of options. That's indicative of a different franchise attitude.

Wellemeyer looked abysmal all spring. He needed to go.

I hope that means Grissom is gone.

Too bad they won't cut Jones lose.

I'll always remember that 16 inning game against Milwaukee Welley.

I'll also remember sitting in the bleachers on several occasions with many other disgruntled fans counting the number of consecutive balls you threw. I hope you finally put it together, but as far as not being a Cub anymore, good riddance.

I guess I can buy that Jake. At least, I think it means they are making better decisions. It seems they were too worried in the past about using minor league options, veteran status, guaranteed contracts, etc for personel decisions. I'm not sure it really means they "mean business now", or they have a bigger "desire to win". But it could be a different mindset. Hopefully this line of reasoning extends to the Grissom decision, and maybe down the line, moves revolving more around performance on the field rather than tenure and status.

Geez, it seems like we got more for Wellemeyer than we did for Patterson. Yuck.

I am guessing that Dusty said that Pagan is ahead of the foodchain over Grissom, and that Marquis knew his hammy couldn't handle it anymore.

Still, classy move by Marquis.

Lincoln Holdzkom has intrigueing numbers as well as an intrigueing history see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Holdzkom if Wikipedia is to be believed...

Lincoln Holdzkom was born March 23, 1982 in Pasadena California. He may be best known for his pitching talent but few people know that he was a child piano prodigy. He started playing the piano at the tender age of two years old under the strict tutelage of his father Christopher Holdzkom, who was a well known pianist himself in Austria during the late sixties. He appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1988 and later provided a song for the critically acclaimed soundtrack for the movie Forrest Gump. After an incident with his agent in 1995 he abrubtly called it quits and has yet to return to the music business. He now plays baseball in the Florida Marlins minor league system but it has been said that he has been known to tickle the ivories from time to time.
