The Cubs will travel to Peoria today as Glendon Rusch takes on the Seattle Mariners. King Felix was scheduled to pitch for the M's, but has been scratched due to shin splints and will be replaced by rookie left-hander Thomas Oldham.

The game will be carried by Seattle radio KOMO so it should be available on MLBaudio for those with access to listen.

According to the Cubs, Novoa should be making an appearance in today's game.

so who gets the 2 open pen spots? do wuretz & novoa go to AAA with wellemeyer traded or released. is williamson ok or will he start the season on the dl? i think ryu & ardsma will get the spots until a 5th starter is needed.

According to the papers Williamson is fine and threw a bullpen session yesterday. It will be interesting to see what the Cubs do. Wellemeyer has nasty pitches but his control is just terrible Damn shame.

good news about williamson. with ardsma doing so well though, they might be better off trading williamson and get something for him before he ends up like chad fox. i wonder if the rockies are still interested in wellemeyer?

I thought Aardsma's velocity went down the crapper. He was hitting 93-94 pretty consistently yesterday. :?

Hopefully it isn't just straight stuff - didn't look like it considering he didn't get hammered.

thats what i thought too but his spring #'s are quite good. he must have regained some if not all of his lost velocity. williamson is a big risk imo and has pretty much said he wants to close again anyway so why not deal him?

Why in the world do you want to trade an effective relief pitcher in Williamson? Why weaken your teams strength? Keep Williamson! You have Williamson, Howry, Eyre, and Dempster and it's a 5-6 inning game...

If it wasn't for Wuerz's unforeseen troubles and Novoa's illness, Williamson probably would have been dealt.

because his health is a major issue. it's a gamble but at least he's worth something now. with ardsma & novoa & perhaps wuretz, it might be worth the risk to trade him and get something of value instead of waiting until he blows out his elbow.

Okay so what happens if Dempster has trouble closing? Williamson is a closer and can step right in to that role. Keep him.

The reason we overpaid for Eyre and Howry (according to Jimbo) is that they can step in and close. Howry was offered closing roles with other organizations, but chose to come here and set up.

Hey, you can never have too many closers in my book. You don't weaken what is strong for your team.

Or you deal strength for strength and improve your team overall. That's what ST trades do for the most part.

IMO, keeping Williamson is the best option, but I can see how he was on the block before our pen developed some holes. I pretty much had Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Ohman, Wuertz, and Novoa as locks before ST started. At least Hendry didn't pull the trigger too early. There really isn't much room to improve this team via trade right now. The spots we can improve drastically on (OF, 2B, SS) are spoken for barring a blockbuster move.

The only move I can see you trade Williamson for is a Starter and no team is going to give up a starter of value for Willimason.

The D-Rays are in serious need of a closer....if we decied we HAD to move him I could see potential there.

I don't see the Rays having as much interest as a team like the Braves might have. The Rays aren't going to have many games worth saving, while the lack of a closer could cause the Braves to lose their first division title since the Clinton administration.

Was it the Clinton administration or the first Bush Administration? I thought it was since 1991, which would have been GB part I...I could be wrong though...just going off memory.
