It doesn't matter whether Turk is right or not. It's funny to me that it is widely assumed the Sammy took steroids (I wouldn't be the least bit shocked either way), but there is no proof. There's not even a guy saying he gave Sammy steroids or saw him do it like there is for Bonds, McGwire, Sheffield, Palmeiro, Pudge, etc.

It just seems a little premature to throw him in the group with those guys. Again, I'm not saying he didn't use.

I've never thought of Sammy as a discrete person either. But, hey, I have to hand it to him. His discretion seems to have surpassed that of many...

Sammy seemed to double in size over the course of a couple of years. I don't think it's premature to include him with any of the others listed, except Palmeiro. He's the only one to date that has failed a test that we know of.

Here's the rundown of proof, as it stands right now IMO:

Canseco: celebrates the fact that he took 'em. Gotta love a guy who just doesn't give a damn. Well, you actually *don't* have to love him, but Canseco is the most refreshing of the bunch IMHO. Proof by confession.

Palmiero: proven through a test. Caught red-handed. Proof beyond all doubt.

Bonds: proven through his testimony, in which he admits they were in his system but claims someone rooked him into thinking it wasn't steroids. The new book pretty much yanks that rug out from under him. It's proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

McGwire: proven because he pretty much took the 5th (not total proof I understand, but we're not talking about prison here and when you take the 5th a preponderance of evidence now shifts against you. Which incidentally is why you are not allowed to take the 5th in a civil trial where only a preponderance is required......but I digress). Proof by a preponderance of the evidence.

Sosa: no testimony proving he took it (had a lawyer speak for him in Congress, which in retrospect was very smart), no positive drug test, and he did not take the 5th. There is anectodal evidence he took it; the stats, and his change in body weight. But not proof (yet).

I will wait for the PROOF before I condemn the guy. But all the while, I fully recognize there is a liklihood Sosa took 'em.

Well, all those other players also weren't smart enough to go overseas every offseason where you'd assume it'd be a little easier to do those sort of things without as much scrutiny.

That said, there's no proof other than the change in his body, so you can't convict him, but there's plenty enough proof there to indict, so to speak.

I think Sammy was on the juice, but his discretion over his peers probably means he won't have much trouble getting in the HOF.

Yeah, I think there's probably something to be said for the fact that Sosa was able to get away in the offseason to do what he wanted away from the prying eyes of the big-time media.

Still though, if he juiced he would have to have continued during the season because 6-months is too long to be without...

I heard it said that Sammy met a guy in the DR at a hotel, gave him 10k, and left with a brown paper bag. Honestly I heard that on the radio. Can anyone confirm it?

It's weird cause Sammy isn't the smartest person in the world, yet he has gotten away wiht it the longest. Maybe he just plays dumb.

Confirm that it happened or confirm that you heard it?

In the off-season Sammy lives in Aventura FL. I lived about 5 blocks from him and saw him frequently. He trained with other S. Florida MLB residents at St. Thomas university in Miami.

He has a house in the DR but visits infrequently.

I'm not saying he did or didn't take steriods. Just trying to set the record straight.

If it was 10K Dominican, that's only about 300 US. Very well could have been Chinese.

"Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa was "robbed" of $20,000 he and his brother left on a desk in a Caracas hotel lobby, a newspaper reported Friday.

Sosa and his brother, Jose Antonio, had the cash in a plastic bag wrapped inside a towel as they sat talking in the lobby of the Caracas Hilton last Saturday, El Universal said, citing unidentified police sources.

The brothers forgot the bag when they left to eat at a hotel restaurant. Remembering it, they rushed back to the lobby but the cash was gone, the newspaper said."

Admittedly that quote came from an anti-Cubs site that I found through google, but it's pretty accurate from my recollection.

Wasn't the Turk on tabbaco juice? I don't which is more unhealthy for your body steroids or that crap.

I thought Turk's thing was licorice. Am I having a senior moment here ???
