The youngest Cub fan in our house saves alot of Cubs articles. Here's an interesting one from just two years ago(2004) from BASEBALL WEEKLY rating the Cubs best prospects:

Top Hitter-Felix Pie

Top Pitcher-Angel Guzman

Cream of the Crop-Jason Dubois, Brendan Harris, Justin Jones, Andy Sisco

Best of the Rest-Francis Beltran, Chadd Blasko, Bobby Brownlie, David Kelton, Billy Petrick, Renyel Pinto, Felix Sanchez, Carlos Vasquez

2003 First-Rounder-Ryan Harvey

Worth Noting-Jemel Spearman, Dwaine Bacon, Jared Blasdell, Sergio Mitre

I was going to post the VineLine 2003 Top Prospects, by after seeing Nic Jackson's name at #4-I was laughingtoo hard to do anything.

3 of the 4 worth noting, weren't even worth noting back in 2004. Only Mitre was. But yeah, that does kinda suck.

The first couple times I read the original post I thought it said "Worth Nothing", which I thought was unfair for Mitre, but pretty accurate for the others.

The 2004 NSBB Top 30 prospects:

1.) Guzman - Injuries have stalled him. Still a high ceiling, but has to stay healthy

2.) Sisco - A good pick here, too bad he's with KC

3.) Jones - Health

4.) Pie - Still a great prospect

5.) Brownlie - Never regained college form

6.) Blasko - health

7.) Harris - Appears to have topped out at utlility player level. Wasn't ever able to take last step

8.) Harvey - Strike zone command big concern

9.) Nolasco - Doing great with FLA this spring -- 0.00 ERA

10.) Ryu - Still right around this level

Health is obviously a big issue here. :(

That just shows how few prospects actually pan out.Look at all the prospects the Sox have traded. How many have panned out?The Yankees have done it through the years.Successful teams seem to know who to trade and who to keep. The only one we traded recently thats had success is Dontrelle. When he was traded he probably wasn't a top 10.

Have there been any Nic Jackson sightings this Spring, or is he completely done?

Don't be so mean to Raw. :P

On the subject of the thread, just look at BA's list from last year. Leicester and Dubois aren't with us anymore and we got little value for them, Dopirak, Harvey, Petrick, Pinto, and Johnson saw their value and promise go down due to poor performance and/or injuries, and you can say that Marshall and Guzman did as well. Pie was really the only prospect in our top 10 last year to maintain or increase his value.

I saw him and talked to him last weekend. He said he was completely healthy and looked it while swinging the bat and shagging flyballs. Nic thought he was going to be headed to Iowa to start the season (and was practicing with the AAA guys).

By the way, Nic's really funny and just seems like a great guy to hang out with.

Nic's been one of my favorite minor leaguers over the past few seasons after watching him play a couple of games. There's just something about him, I guess. It's good to see he's healthy, and I hope that translates to some success on the field.
